Byrd Center and Global Water Institute Webmaster and Communications Specialist Position Description

The Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center (BPCRC) and Global Water Institute (GWI) Communication Specialist will lead in maintaining and updating the existing websites (400-500 pages) ensuring consistency, accessibility, and performance. Gathering internal and external information (i.e., news, events, research related stories) that supports the mission and goals of both units and sharing information via the website, social media, videos, fliers, posters, and monthly newsletter.

Manages digital communication activities and works in partnership to strategize, develop, coordinate, and disseminate internal and external communications. This position will work approximately 50% for Byrd Center and 50% for GWI.

· Coordinates external and internal communications flow via print and digital fliers, posters, videos, and messages

· Formulates the content, timing, and manner of release of information

· Maintains directories to effectively communicate information and events with audiences – including internal members, OSU community, off-campus collaborators, and the public

· Utilizes social media, newsletters, and fliers to disseminate information to audiences

· Collaboration with videographer in maintaining Vimeo video gallery on website (occasional)

Researches, writes and edits content for website, social media streams, and newsletters that educate, inform, and build followers.

· Updates and maintains the information on websites using Drupal, HTML and CSS, Photoshop, and other sources

· Posts and curate’s content

· Updates web pages, including reviewing and implementing recommendations from tools such as Monsido

· Participates in training from Sprout, MailChimp and other sources to implement best practices in social media and digital newsletters.

Maintains websites, social media, and newsletter analytics and prepares/shares data for reports.

· Monitors and assesses analytics and proposes adjustments based on analytics and goals

· Monitors and analyzes web, social media, and newsletter activity using Drupal Statistics/Google Analytics, Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/Linked-In, and Mailchimp

Organization, setup, and attendance at special events, seminars in person and online

· Helps plan events, seminars, meetings, and research collaborations

· Assists in coordinating various special events and manages some venue logistics

· Works with research teams and collaborators to ensure that events meet goals

· Designs web forms for event registration

· Collaborates on communication strategies and solutions related to event marketing

· Documents special events and activities as needed

Designs posters, fliers, reports for digital and printed displays

· Creates effective communication strategies for events

· Develops engaging and creative content for print, presentations, websites, and social media platforms

Supervises 1-2 hourly students

· Supervises and trains students to create content and maintain websites, social media streams, and newsletters

75% maintain and update websites/social media/newsletters/video page

10% research, write, and edit stories for website/social media/newsletter

5% design of posters, fliers, etc. for digital/print displays

5% organization and setup for special events/registration

5% other as directed by supervisor

Additional Information:

$57,000 – $58,000 depending upon experience
