NAIT’s Materials Management Department is
looking for another dynamic individual to join their Purchasing team. Buyers
are responsible for assigned operational and tactical purchasing requirements
for the Institute’s daily operations, and maintenance. The Buyer position
performs varied duties according to established policies and procedures. Work
is performed under the general guidance of the Purchasing Supervisor and is
subject to review for adherence to policies, procedures and the minimization of
procurement costs through appropriate procurement recommendations.

This position will also be responsible for
assigned administrative duties within the department as well as providing
assistance to internal clients departments. Although there may be considerable
variations in commodities and supplies among assignments the level of
knowledge, abilities, and skills are the same. Tact, discretion, and overall
knowledge of corporate procurement policies will contribute to success in this
position.


Key
Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the purchase of various assigned
    goods and services on a when and as needed basis for the client base within
    NAIT on both a timely and best value basis.
  • Responsible for the end-to-end completion of
    Competitive Procurements through the various stages (Initiation, development,
    solicitation, evaluation, negotiation, award and contract management),
    including all electronic postings, documentation and debriefs.
  • Manage non-competitive procurements in accordance
    with internal policy and procedures.
  • Within the scope of assignments, identifies
    opportunities for the cost savings and consolidation of materials and/or
    services.
  • Prepares procurement documentation; reviews,
    reconciles, and expedites, discrepancies related to these documents and, as
    required, communicates with customer departments and vendors to select
    appropriate procurement strategies and priorities.
  • Resolves any discrepancies relating to quantities
    and invoicing.
  • Administrative duties as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

Skills
& Abilities:

  • Effective communication skills and excellent
    computer skills.
  • Knowledge with the Purchasing Policy Guidelines.
  • Ability
    to prepare written descriptions of materials, supplies and equipment to be
    purchased; to analyze offers and to recommend purchases.

 

Qualifications:

  • Completion of grade 12.
  • Professional designation Supply Chain Management
    (SCMP, CPPO or equivalent). A combination of education and experience may be
    considered at NAIT’s sole discretion.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a procurement role.
  • Competitive procurement experience.
  • PeopleSoft experience an asset.
  • Considerable experience in purchasing.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with knowledge
    of NAIT program, policies and procedures.
  • Considerable experience in purchasing.

 

Remuneration: $2,320.28 to $3,109.48, bi-weekly, plus a comprehensive
benefits package. (Classification – Buyer II). 

This position is covered by the AUPE
(Alberta Union of Provincial Employees) Collective Agreement.
