All About You

The Business Manager is a full-time position reporting directly to the Dean of the Chaifetz School of Business.

The Business Manager will work with the Dean to provide direct, centralized support to designated staff and departments and ensure processes and transactions are completed accurately and timely. The Business Manager must have experience with Workday HR systems, payroll, business and finance policies and practices, and have a working knowledge of employment laws. 

Duties and responsibilities include management of budgets and annual budgeting process, billing and purchasing, and business administration processes. This position will manage and train some professional and student staff in the department.

Job Duties

  • Manage all aspects of assigned departments, funds (initiation, budget, and strategy).

  • Routinely interacts with various internal and external departments and business partners.

  • Perform HR functions such as posting job requisitions, conducting recruitment transactions, entering promotions, compensation changes, labor distributions, cost allocations, organizational assignments, and terminations in Workday for faculty, professional staff, and student workers.

  • Monitor and audit expenses; submit corrections as required.

  • Create, review, and present Business and Finance and ad hoc reports as required using tools such as Workday, Microsoft Office 365 including Excel, and other software.

  • Assist with implementation and reconciliation of annual salary budgets, process budget reallocations, and revisions.  Monitor department operational expenses in accordance with SLU guidelines and policies.

  • Serve as initial point of contact with department leaders, HR department, and Business and Finance regarding Chaifetz School of Business related activities.

  • Complete daily Workday processes or other university system operations, functions, and duties, ensuring adherence to service level standards and metrics. Review and audit transactions to ensure accuracy.  

  • Evaluate, analyze, and research data. Perform investigative accounting.

  • Recommend improvements to processes and assist with implementation of changes.

  • Communicate with employees, departments, and business partners regarding issues, errors, to ensure accuracy of processes.

  • Respond accurately, timely, and thoroughly to all issues and questions.

  • Assist with travel requests and approvals.

  • Oversee and supervise the building manager

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, business/finance administration, budgeting, accounting and human resources practices.

  • Solid communication, technology, analytical, problem-solving, and management skills.

  • Computer experience in maintaining and working in databases and email systems is critical.

  • Advanced knowledge of Workday, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access and Google applications.

  • Must be able to perform calculations and formulas using a calculator and Excel.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail a must.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of experience in Finance, Budgeting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or Administrative Management, or equivalent combination of experience and education. Previous supervisor experience. Advanced credentials such as a Master of Business Administration preferred.
