Wellcome is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns and building partnerships.
We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health and wellbeing and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.
We are building a new Business Architecture and Process capability at Wellcome, a team focused on helping the organisation work better and deliver change well. Success in this role will have the potential to amplify the impact we have through our inspiring mission, towards a healthier future for everyone.
We are looking for a Business Architect to help shape how Wellcome operates, using business architecture, operating model design and transformation insight to turn agreed priorities into sustainable organisational change.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will join the Business Architecture and Process team within Operations, reporting to the Head of Business Architecture and Process.
This is a newly establishing team with an organisation wide remit. Its purpose is to help Wellcome understand how the organisation works today, define how it needs to work in future, and support the changes needed to get there.
The team works closely with colleagues across multiple teams, from Operations and Strategy Development, to Organisational Planning and People. Together, we help ensure Wellcome has the operating models, capabilities, structures, processes and ways of working needed to deliver agreed priorities effectively and sustainably.
This is an exciting opportunity to join at the start of building a new capability, with the chance to influence how Wellcome designs, organises and delivers across the organisation.
What will I be doing?
You will help Wellcome design and embed practical, sustainable operating models and ways of working that support delivery of our mission.
Combining strong analytical thinking, business architecture and transformation capability, you will assess organisational challenges, develop clear insights, shape future-state designs and support targeted transformation activity. You will work across teams to ensure changes are well-designed, implementable and sustainably embedded.
As a Business Architect, you will:
Develop business architecture insight by analysing organisational processes, structures, systems, capabilities and ways of working to identify opportunities to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
Design future-state operating models by developing practical operating model views, capability models, value chains and organisational design artefacts that support agreed priorities.
Support targeted transformation by helping to translate future-state designs into practical action and ensuring changes lead to sustainable operating models, capabilities and ways of working.
Manage organisational complexity by identifying interdependencies, assessing impacts and supporting the sequencing and coordination of change activity.
Collaborate across Wellcome by working closely with a range of teams to align on priorities and approaches.
Embed learning and continuous improvement by capturing lessons from transformation activity and strengthening how Wellcome designs and delivers in the future.
Is this job for me?
This role is for you if you enjoy solving complex organisational problems and turning ambiguity into clear, practical design.
You may have experience in business architecture, operating model design, transformation or organisational change. You will be comfortable working across teams, facilitating conversations, influencing stakeholders and creating structured outputs that help people make better decisions.
You will enjoy this role if you want to work on organisation wide challenges, combine design with practical delivery, and help a mission-driven organisation improve how it operates.
To apply for this role, please submit an updated CV and answer two application questions to demonstrate that you meet the minimum requirements for the role.
Minimum Criteria:
Experience in business architecture, operating model design and/or transformation within a complex organisation.
Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills, with experience turning complex organisational challenges into practical recommendations.
Experience developing or applying business architecture artefacts such as capability models, operating model views, value chains or organisational structures.
Experience supporting or delivering cross-functional transformation activity, working collaboratively with senior stakeholders and delivery/change teams.
Strong facilitation, communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to support effective decision-making.
