Work Schedule 7:00 am – 3:30 pm; Monday – Friday Some weekend work required. Will have ‘on-call’ designation. Staff member will carry a phone 7-8 weeks per year and respond to after-hours custodial emergencies.
Mandatory Employee
This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position The primary purpose of this position is to provide supervision of general cleaning responsibilities consistent with the standards set by Housing and Residence Life. This position will include area supervision for 2-3 residential complexes, up to 8 employees with additional temporary staff in summer, and training of staff on procedures and new products or equipment.
Minimum Education/Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, and one year of experience in the area assigned; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from high school and three years experience in the area of work assigned, two of which were in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Job Duties
  • Advises staff of specialized cleaning and maintenance techniques and processes for use in unusual situations or problems. Supervises staff in preparing the building for openings and conferences; ensures that all areas, rooms, entryways, wall sections, glass, floors, stairwells, and fixtures are cleaned appropriately. Resolves emergencies while on-call by direct and appropriate actions to ensure continuing health and safety of residents.

  • Wears protective safety equipment in accordance with state safety regulations. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed by staff; calls attention to lapses in behavior. Practices and enforces all safety policies and procedures, rules, and regulations. Mixes cleaning chemicals appropriately to ensure proper use and safety. Investigate work accidents and recommends additional protocols and training.

  • Determines priorities for work; determines that materials are available to complete the jobs. Responsible for organizing and directing routine schedules. Develops and updates employee work schedules; notifies employees of schedules change. Approves leave requests, track leave balances, and communicate the impact of low leave balances to employees.

  • Monitors all assigned areas for improvement on a daily basis, and works with staff to maintain APPA Level 1 cleaning standards. Responds to customer needs promptly and respectfully. Recognizes, addresses, and resolves potential problems in service.

  • Prepare personnel improvement plans and personal evaluations.

  • Facilitates communication among the workgroup in a manner that helps accomplish daily work goals. Exercises sound judgment when responding to service requests in living areas to ensure good relations between the Facilities office and residents.

  • Responsible for orientation and welcoming new employees, assigning them to specific responsibilities, and providing the equipment needed. Trains all members of their staff on cleaning processes and departmental protocols. Models work/job duties for employees.

  • Maintains and manages supply inventory to ensure adequate amounts to meet the needs of work: knows the existing inventory and compares what’s on hand with needs for ordering purposes;
