Ohio State University Extension (OSUE) seeks an Agriculture and Natural Resources/Community Development (ANR/CD) Educator for Brown County, located in Georgetown, OH. This position will work collaboratively with county, center, region, and state teams of OSUE professionals and with local agency leaders and volunteers. Responsible for a broad range of basic to complex duties with an emphasis on crop production, livestock production, business retention, and leadership development. Additional programming could include but are not limited to: providing guidance and/or leadership for the development of educational programs and applied research in agriculture, natural resources, and community development to meet current and future needs in farm management, food security, home horticulture/Master Gardeners, farm land-use issues, innovative agricultural business opportunities, environmental quality and sustainability, renewable energy, bio-based products, economic development, and organizational development (i.e. ANR/CD) programming targeted to local and regional needs. Utilize appropriate methods, both formal and informal, of community assessment to identify educational needs and opportunities of local community. Design, implement, and teach educational programming, based on these needs, to groups and individuals comprised of adults and/or youth. May also convene and facilitate community coalitions focused on those needs. May be required to replicate and adhere to existing programs that meet the needs of their local community. Develop promotional materials, work with and/or lead committees and volunteers, and establish and maintain partnerships within the community that support the achievement of the program goals. Evaluate educational programs and dissemination methods, as well as utilize existing evaluation instruments to evaluate the teaching effectiveness, program quality, and results of local programs. Participate in discussions with county representatives concerning program funding and may be responsible for the management of the county budget. May also be responsible for securing external funds to support local programming. Participate as a member of county, multi-county, and/or state Extension teams to further the overall mission, vision, and values of both OSU Extension and Agriculture and Natural Resources/ Community Development. The educator will participate in shared stewardship responsibilities that assist with county administrative duties.

25% Plan, teach, and evaluate educational programs on all issues affecting agriculture such as crop production, and the use of data and technology, livestock production, commercial horticulture, food safety, forestry, natural resources, water resources, land use, home horticulture/Master Gardeners, and marketing, including programs that support rural economic and business development with a focus on building/enhancing systems and creating new economic development opportunities.

25% Implement local and regional economic development programming through coordination with local partners to create results for the county. Coordinate and teach economic development programs such as entrepreneurship development, business retention and expansion, e-Commerce, retail market analysis, and economic impact analysis, etc., where appropriate and applicable. Plan, organize, and teach programs focused on home and farm energy efficiency and on-site renewable energy development, marketing, and other emerging issues. Coordinate and teach leadership development programs. Design new Emerging Leaders programs with young adults to involve them in the community.

25% Provide a minimum of 25% specialization in an area such as food crop production, agronomic crop production, livestock production, economic development, or farm management to the Ohio Valley EERA, region, and state Extension professionals. Approximately 10% of Educator’s time will be dedicated to statewide issues.

5% Develop and work closely with local advisory committee(s), agriculture and natural resources agencies/groups, county commissioners, and community forums to assess needs and assist in the development and evaluation of Extension programs. Effectively utilize various teaching methods to assist the community in implementing a balanced development approach.

5% Ensure diversity among potential clientele and learners, and equal access to programs and facilities without regard to age, race, creed, color, handicap, sex, sexual orientation, developmental disability, national origin, marital status, arrest, or non- program related conviction record.

5% Maintain a high level of visibility and facilitate communications with a wide range of clientele including traditional and non-traditional learners, elected officials, agricultural and non-agricultural stakeholders, and environmental and special interest groups to promote the understanding of agriculture, natural resources, and community development issues.

10% Work collaboratively with Extension Educators in all other program areas (4-H Youth Development, and Family and Consumer Sciences), where local interdisciplinary efforts are needed to meet broad issues or carry out major programming efforts.
