| Position Details | The Brinson Prize Fellow will work in collaboration with Meredith Hughes primarily on analyzing debris disk structure as part of the ALMA large program ARKS (the ALMA survey to Resolve exoKuiper belt Substructures). Initial emphasis will be on characterizing the vertical structure of a sample of debris disks to learn about planetary system dynamics. The approved ALMA large program will generate a substantial and comprehensive data set, and the Brinson Prize Fellow will have the opportunity to work with other teams and pursue follow-up projects as part of the ARKS collaboration. Wesleyan’s Planetary Science Group includes faculty and postdocs from several departments. The Brinson Prize Fellow will have opportunities to interact with other faculty and to carry out independent research with full access to observational facilities available. Responsibilities include:
Wesleyan University, located between New York City and Boston, has a small and active astronomy program which emphasizes involvement of undergraduate and M.A. students in research. The Brinson Prize Fellow would also have the opportunity to develop educational skills through mentoring students in research and possibly teaching if desired. |
| Minimum Qualifications | Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics or a related field. Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds. |
| Preferred Qualifications | Experience with data reduction and analysis, millimeter-wavelength observations, and planet formation research. |
