Boîte à Lunch Assistant Facilitator

8 weeks, June 25th – August 16th 2024 – 30hrs/week  – 17$/hr

Do you enjoy working with children? Do you like cooking, and you want to learn more about healthy eating habits?  Join the Boîte à Lunch NDG Team! Boîte à Lunch NDG is an edible education and food literacy program serving youth and families in NDG. We run cooking and nutrition workshops for elementary and high school students in neighborhood schools and community centers, during which participants prepare healthy meals and snacks. 

 

What we are offering: 

  • Practical learning: animation techniques; modeling healthy food habits to youths; team and individual work.
  • Learning opportunities from senior facilitators.

 

Your responsibilities / Tasks:  

  • Help facilitate the following activities:  cooking and nutrition activities for children in summer camps, family-friendly cooking workshops,  Healthy Snacks program (preparing and packaging snacks and meals for campers);
  • Transfer of cooking skills to workshop participants & modeling healthy lifestyle habits;
  • Assist the coordinator in the planning of the workshops, including grocery shopping, dividing up ingredients, setting up for and cleaning up from workshops;
  • Assist in other cooking, gardening, and outdoor market activities at the Depot, according to interest.

 

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable speaking and reading French and/or English (additional language an asset);
  • Ability to interact positively with youth and families of various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds;
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant families, and appreciation of cultural knowledge is an asset;
  • Capacity for effective teamwork, sense of initiative and creativity, passion for good food!

 

About the Depot*: Founded in 1986, The Depot is a community-based non-profit organization  (NPO) that works collaboratively with its community to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in NDG and the surrounding areas, in a manner that ensures dignity, community engagement, and the development of human potential. Eligibility and working conditions: 

  • This position is offered through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Link to the Eligibility Criterias.
  • Supervisor: Dahlia Chan-Tang (Boîte à Lunch NDG Coordinator).
  • Workplace: NDG (Montreal)
  • Schedule: 30 hours per week, including some weekday evenings. Exact schedule to be determined.
