School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences

 Bioinformatics Technical Specialist, QMUL30695

The School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences (SBBS) is recruiting for a bioinformatics technical specialist to help improve our use of computing resources, to drive forward informatics research, in support of researchers exploiting the opportunities arising out of technological innovations, particularly in sequencing technologies and the associated computation. We are therefore looking for someone who likes to make things happen, who is a problem solver and is passionate about carving themselves a role with a broad range of skills. We need someone who is keen and has a can-do attitude for this exciting and varied role.

You will bring the informatics and computational expertise to support the vibrant set of research projects in the school. You will ensure the SBBS and ITS teams work efficiently together. You will support SBBS scientists (and outside partners) to access to local, national and cloud facilities; and will innovate informatics projects.

You will join the Department of Biology who has substantial strength in genomics, and runs a successful commercial genomics facility composed of state-of-the art platforms. The bioinformatics technical specialist will support the development of this facility and engage with research happening in the department. You will also support the technical functioning of MSc degrees in bioinformatics and biosciences.

In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time permanent appointment, with an expected start date of 1 December 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The starting salary will be Grade 6, in the range of £50,047 – £55,805 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
