In the backcountry course, students will spend four days and three nights camping and studying subalpine species such as whitebark pine, Clark’s nutcracker, pika, and hoary marmots, while exploring Western Montana’s Swan Mountains. Students will also gain experience camping in grizzly bear country and practicing leave-no-place principles.
* Food and lodging included. Backcountry tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads all included if needed. All group gear (water filters, cookware, stove, etc) provided. Participants must be able to hike 7 miles with a 30-40lb pack.
