Role Summary/Purpose:

The AVP, Recovery Legal Strategy will own strategy and analysis for Synchrony’s Recovery legal business (~$90MM in annual gross recoveries and growing). The AVP is expected to utilize advanced analytics and predictive modeling techniques to optimize decisions, drive business value, and act as a thought leader. The AVP is expected to lead development of legal vs. agency segmentations, and work closely with Recovery Operations, Compliance, Legal, Recovery Systems, IT and other functions for strategy ideation, development, implementation, testing, and performance monitoring for overall recovery income and operating expense business benefits.

Essential Responsibilities:

Develop, test and oversee implementation of legal strategies, including segmentation / eligibility, pre-legal treatment, attorney treatment and post-judgment strategy. Includes using segmentation tools such as CHAID / CART and other optimization techniques to maximize the value of legal strategies. Includes developing test design, obtaining approvals, overseeing implementation and completing performance monitoring.

Identify and drive opportunities to improve legal segmentation and performance. For example, assess whether employment, income and asset attributes should be used to select accounts for legal treatment.

Co-lead development and execution of Recovery legal roadmap with goal of reaching top performance in the industry.

Conduct targeted benchmarking to understand how Synchrony’s legal strategies, processes and performance compare to competitors and to identify best practices and opportunities.

Ensure strategy documentation and controls are comprehensive, accurate and up to date.

Complete regular reviews of strategies with Compliance, Legal and Fair Lending to ensure strategies and segmentations and/or model scores used in the strategies comply with applicable laws, regulations and company policies.

Partner with Recovery Operations and Business Intelligence team to ensure robust, accurate and timely Recovery business intelligence / reporting / MIS.

Lead or support other projects and analyses as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Master’s in quantitative discipline (e.g., science, engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, MBA) or Bachelor’s in similar discipline with stronger work experience.

4+ years of strategy, analytics, credit / risk management or consulting experience.

At least 2+ years’ experience utilizing decision tree segmentation or other predictive modeling skills, advanced skills in SAS, SQL, data mining

Demonstrated strong communication skills in presentation to senior leadership and effectively cross functional collaborations

Strong PC proficiency (Microsoft Suite, including: Word, Excel and PowerPoint) or comparable software applications

Desired Characteristics:

Prior Collections or Recovery Strategy experience, especially legal recovery strategy.

5+ years’ experience with strategy analytics, including leading champion vs. challenger testing from start to finish and developing CHAID segmentations

Strong intellectual curiosity and problem solving skills.

Strong relationship building, communication and influencing skills.

Demonstrated ability to drive initiatives from idea through implementation.

Grade/Level: 11

The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 – 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

You must be 18 years or older

You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
