The Opportunity:
UCF is seeking to hire two (2) Automotive Mechanic I positions. Positions #P-14301 & #P-18537. The Automotive Mechanic I position is responsible for the full range of automotive maintenance and repair needed to keep all university vehicles and equipment in good running condition, including gas, diesel and electrical engines.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general and preventive maintenance on vehicles, heavy equipment, pumps, generators, emergency power systems, trailers, engines and all automotive/rolling stock owned by the University.

  • Obtain new parts and equipment from Inventory, stockroom, supervisor or vendor. Assist in parts inventory records, department inventory verification and the assignment of equipment.

  • Perform emergency repairs and road service calls on all automotive equipment. Tow disabled and struck automotive equipment. Test units at the actual job sites and evaluates performance and/or makes field adjustments.

  • Complete work orders in timely manner. Record labor hours, action code, shop stock, and trade notes. Indicate in the trade notes; work performed; any special conditions or situation that requires further attention. Report to the supervisor any condition needing attention. Change the work order status.

Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in automotive repair; or a high school diploma and 2+ years of relevant experience. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of automotive repair, equivalent to a two-year technical course as given in a high school or technological school for automotive repair; or four years equivalent experience.

  • Familiarity of industry standards for automotive repair, maintenance procedures, and use of industry standard automotive test and diagnostic equipment.

  • Ability to communicate in conversational English in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment (iPod Touch for AiM PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures and utilize telecommunication devices.

  • Flexible in assignments.

  • Demonstrated competences in interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, calculation, reading, evaluating, comprehension, and organizing.

  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications for work order systems (IWMS).

  • Ability to use chemicals approved by Environmental Health Safety to perform essential job functions daily.

Position requires a valid driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
