Job Title: Automation Controls Technician
Location: Indianapolis, INFull TimeJob Summary:
The Automation Controls Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automation and control systems. This role involves working with a variety of equipment including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and other control devices to ensure efficient and safe operation of manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Setup:
- Install, program, and commission PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and other control equipment.
- Configure and calibrate sensors, actuators, and other field devices.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform regular maintenance on control systems to prevent breakdowns.
- Diagnose and repair faults in automation systems, minimizing downtime.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- System Design and Integration:
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design and integrate new control systems.
- Develop and modify control programs to improve system efficiency and performance.
- Ensure integration of new equipment with existing control systems.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate documentation of control system configurations, modifications, and repairs.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and project progress.
- Training and Support:
- Provide technical support to production and maintenance teams.
- Train operators and other technicians on the proper use and maintenance of control systems.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in automation and control systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
- Experience with HMI development and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of electrical and control system schematics.
- Knowledge of networking and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
