Job Description:
The Biology Department at Augustana College invites applications for a full-time, broadly trained tenure-track assistant professor beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year. Teaching responsibilities include anatomy (human) and possibly a combination of the following: neuroanatomy, comparative anatomy, senior capstone (Senior Inquiry), cadaver dissection, an upper-level elective in the candidate’s specialty, and/or a J-term non-majors biology course or course in the first-year liberal arts sequence.
A strong candidate will demonstrate: a commitment to creative and engaging undergraduate teaching and academic advising; a commitment to pursue a program of scholarship that includes undergraduate students, publishing in professional journals, and presenting at regional, state, and national conferences; and a willingness to serve the college, department, profession, and community. Service as an academic advisor to Biology majors will begin in the second year of employment. The successful candidate will teach 24 credits per 10-month academic year (standard courses are 4 credits).

Our faculty are active throughout the college in teaching, service, and scholarship, and we seek a candidate with a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and the value of a broadly educated person. We are a collegial group who support one another and our students. Beyond the classroom, student success is promoted through mentoring and advising.

The successful candidate must have expertise in the biological sciences through advanced education, teaching, and/or work-related experience, the ability to learn and employ innovative teaching and advising strategies, willingness to actively infuse multiple perspectives and critical thinking into pedagogy, commitment to fostering equity and inclusion; and a willingness to serve the college, department, profession, and community.
