Audio Visual Production Lead – INTERNAL ONLY

  • Working across the whole of AV Services, provide guidance and process management for production services and technologies that sit outside standard in-room teaching support, applying market awareness and an understanding of user needs in higher education to find the appropriate service solution and lead the site teams in their application.
  • Directly connecting with King’s Venues to be a first port of call/filter for events with complex technical requests. Co-ordinating with the AV Supervisors and their teams on what’s possible, generating best practices for external client events and services. Liaising on cross-team issues like charging and large-scale client meetings.
  • Championing and connecting AV Services with other departments and functions across KCL as part of the ethos of world class services for a world class university. Working with both academic departments and professional services, forging links and providing support.
  • Advancing our value-added services such as video production by establishing service products, linking with users and AV staff on productions from initial enquiries, creating processes, standards and SLAs. Working with King’s Online to raise standards and break down silos.
  • Create and manage AV process and policies documents
  • Deputise for the AV Services Manager as required

This post will be offered on a full-time, indefinite contract.

  • Provide excellent technical event production management and support for all sites where required, co-ordinated through King’s Venues and AV Site Supervisors
  • Keep abreast of appropriate technological trends and developments, and identify and create services and processes to support new and flexible AV technologies across the College
  • Support on the management of information in AV Services, including but not limited to internal webpages, shared document libraries, and instructional guidance for users. Maintain service information and rate cards in line with costs to the department.
  • Actively engage with other departments in the department and wider university to forge links and break down silos for the benefit of a more efficient service.
  • Deputise and support the AV Services Manager, attending meetings and undertaking tasks as requested
  • Represent AV Services in the wider university through delivering workshops and training, attending meetings, and participating in working groups
  • Use knowledge and experience to coach or train others on specific procedures or tasks
  • Assist with recruitment and people management within the department as required
  • Play an active and informed role within IT keeping abreast of developments to ensure a high level of service is provided and that knowledge and skills are developed on all the AV facilities and equipment available.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.  

Essential criteria 

1.       Educated to degree level or equivalent (HNC, A level, NVQ 3, HND level or equivalent with relevant experience) 

2.       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – able to communicate with a wide variety of people and senior management in a professional manner 

3.       Expertise in AV or relevant technical industry 

4.       Extensive experience in technical production of events from conception through to completion 

5.       Managerial experience, managing a team and/or a service 

6.       Able to negotiate and influence when working on projects and service changes that involve multiple teams and stakeholders 

7.       Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders 

8.       AV related membership of a recognised organisation  

9.       Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative and manage own workload 

Desirable criteria 

1.       AV related membership of a recognised organisation (CTS, AES, IOA, etc)  

2.       Previous experience in production of events from conception through to completion.
