Salary Information
Department Summary The UNT Department of History hosts the university’s minor in Mexican American Studies, as well as its minor and certificate in Africana Studies and the undergraduate certificate program in Food Studies. Several of our faculty members hold affiliations with the UNT Women’s and Gender Studies Program or with the Latina/o and Mexican American Studies Program. The department is also home to UNT’s renowned Oral History Program, to a number of digital scholarship projects, and to the UNT Military History Center. We have 35 full-time faculty members; approximately 500 undergraduate majors and minors; and 100 graduate students. We take the responsibilities of an HSI seriously and consider this area an opportunity for growth in our graduate program.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary In addition to being an innovative scholar with an ambitious agenda for historical research, the successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach sections of the U.S. history survey (either half or both halves), upper-division courses in Mexican American history, and graduate courses in their field(s) of specialization. The candidate is expected to conduct a vigorous research program, supervise graduate training, and serve on departmental committees. Interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to research and teaching are welcomed. This position will also contribute to the Latina/o Mexican-American Studies Program and Mexican American Studies minor.
Minimum Qualifications PhD in history or closely related field by the time of appointment.
