Department Summary The UNT Clinical Psychology doctoral (Ph.D.) program is one of only a handful of APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral programs nationwide that is housed in a top tier (R1) university that also holds the distinction of being a minority serving institution (MSI). The program offers intensive research training in the science of Clinical Psychology via highly productive faculty research labs. Simultaneously, students obtain in-depth, closely supervised training in the practice of Clinical Psychology. Students begin clinical practicum internally within our psychology training clinic, before advancing to competitive external practicum sites across the DFW Metroplex, gaining experience with underserved areas or populations. Over the past decade, our program has transformed into a majority-minority student body. We are committed to a student-centered learning approach with close faculty mentorship. In addition, our program is: (a) ranked 14th nationally (top 6%) on its number of publications in the most influential assessment journals, ranked 6th nationally (top 3%) on its impact as measured by its citations in the area of assessment; (b) ranked 5th nationally (top 3% on its adjusted passing rate on the national licensing exam (EPPP); and © home to one of the largest psychology training clinics in the country; offering high quality, low-cost services to a diverse clientele. More information about our program can be found at https://psychology.unt.edu/graduate-programs/clinical-psychology

The UNT Department of Psychology has ~30 faculty members and over 3,000 undergraduate majors. There are three doctoral programs in the department: Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology (also APA-accredited), and Behavioral Science. Across the three programs, we have approximately 110 graduate students. The department is within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS), which is committed to supporting junior faculty via small internal (seed) grants, as is the Research and Innovation office. Salary is competitive (mid-to-upper 70k on a 9-month contract) and teaching loads (2:2) can be reduced to help faculty maximize research and grant productivity with external funding. Opportunities to teach during breaks and summers are often available if desired.
The department faculty have made a commitment to increasing the number of faculty members from historically marginalized groups, such as faculty of color. We have established formal and informal mentoring networks and processes by which every faculty member can succeed, feel supported, and find community. Candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education, those with professional or research experiences working with minoritized populations, and individuals with life experiences that have challenged them to know themselves as multicultural beings are encouraged to apply.
UNT is a Carnegie-designated Tier One research university that is in Denton, Texas, which is north of the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton Metroplex, the most populous metropolitan area for both Texas and the South, and the fourth largest metropolitan area in the U.S. UNT Denton, as the flagship research campus of the UNT System, has over 42,000 students including more than 8,000 graduate students. Denton is a vibrant college town, like Austin but without the dense population (https://livability.com/best-places/2022-top-100-best-places-to-live-in-the-us/top-100-2022-denton-tx/). Both undergraduate and graduate students participate on faculty research teams. UNT is a Hispanic Serving Institution and a Minority Serving Institution, given that substantial proportions of undergraduate and graduate students at the university are from underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds. Thus, successful candidates will possess a strong commitment to diversity issues and active engagement with individuals encompassing diversity in all its forms.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary The Department of Psychology at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to join the core faculty of our APA-accredited doctoral (PhD) program in Clinical Psychology, which has been continuously accredited for more than 40 years. This recruitment is part of a broader departmental initiative and investment where several new faculty members are expected to be hired. As a result, the area of specialty is open but successful applicants are expected to have evidence of an active and potentially externally fundable program of research. Candidates with collaborative potential with faculty associated with the department’s other doctoral programs in Behavioral Sciences and/or Counseling Psychology are strongly encouraged to apply.
