The assistant director of club sports and camp reports to the director of recreational sports programs. This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating club sports, late-night programming and special events as well as assisting with the Mini Canes Summer Camp Program.

  • Oversee the direction and operations of the club sports program to include mentoring student participants and manage coaches.

  • Assist club sport officers with their budget preparation and presentation to the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC).

  • Coordinate with other professional staff with travel planning, purchasing requests, and reimbursements for club sport events.

  • Oversee all club budgets consisting of SAFAC funds, donation accounts and agency accounts totaling over $250,000.

  • Conduct club sports officers meetings. Coordinate fundraising and revenue generating opportunities for club sports.

  • Oversee the Federation of Club Sports Council which is the governing body of all club sports.

  • Assist in overall administration of the Summer Mini Canes Recreational Sports summer camp program.

  • Develop and implement late night programming events in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs. 

  • Develop student learning outcomes and assess late night events success Supervise the club sport athletic training staff and serve as liaison with health provider to develop, implement coverage and treatment.

  • Manage and coordinate maintenance club sports vans for travel per risk management.

  • Maintain and use club sports management software (i.e. Do Sports Easy.)

  • Create and recommend policy implementation and regulations, communication and evaluation concerning club sports and summer camp.

  • Work closely with the director of recreational sports programs in program, personnel, and fiscal management programs.

  • Communicate all department and University Risk Management policies to all club sports.

  • Assist in the development of a risk management program to ensure a safe environment.

  • Track revenues and expenditures regularly as it relates to the club sports program. 

  • Maintain fiscal summaries and cost analyses of activities. 

  • Assist in the annual budget preparation for club sports and summer camp programs. 

  • Complete requested assessments of all programs, services and activities.

  • Participate in a unified team approach in the delivery of departmental programs and services.

  • Support department’s mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle and recreational sports.  

  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreational Sports or Executive Director of the Department of Wellness and Recreation.

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in physical education, sports management, or related field.  Master’s degree preferred.

Certification and Licensing:

Experience:

Minimum two years of professional experience required or a combination of education and work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement and evaluate departmental operations.
  • Ability to establish departmental goals and objectives which support overall strategies.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, develop, and train others.
  • Exceptional knowledge of the rules and regulations governing a wide array of sports and ability to direct and manage large sporting events.
  • Strong working knowledge of the University’s policies that govern student organizations, risk management, purchasing, travel, and outside vendors.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Due to the nature of the responsibilities, flexibility to a variable work schedule (early mornings, evenings and weekends) is necessary.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience administering club sports and youth programming.
  • Experience in club sports training and supervision of multiple part time student staff.
  • Experience in late night programming and administering risk management practices for recreation programs.
  • Have initiative, leadership skills, oral/written skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of recreational programs to a culturally diverse population.
