Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Summary: Performs work of considerable difficulty in the direction and management of programs and services focused on the recruitment, retention and development of university employees. Position ensures human resource procedures and operations are consistent with current laws and university policies and reflect current best practices of the HR profession and the highest priorities of the University. Provides high-level consulting services to University administrators, including deans, directors, and department chairs, and takes a proactive leadership role in efforts to improve services to the University community.

Additional Department Summary: The Assistant Director for HR Business Partners provides direct leadership for the HR Business Partner team to include day to day oversight for the HR Business Partner team in collaboration with the Director Human Resources. Ensures that HRBPs are equipped with the right tools and talents necessary for executing their duties as strategic partners for unit leadership, proposing and executing human resources’ initiatives that support the strategic priorities of the college/division in the areas of classification, compensation, recruiting, hiring, onboarding, rewards and recognition, professional development, performance management, employee relations, engagement and culture, and workforce and strategic planning. Fosters a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the HR Business Partner team, and with the Human Resources’ Centers of Excellence. Ensures HRBP efforts are aligned with human resources and/or University policies, procedures, practices, and federal and state regulations.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a human resource environment; OR Master’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a human resource environment. Previous supervisory experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to build successful relationships across all levels and be a results-oriented change agent. Ability to read and interpret complex laws, rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to discern organizational protocol and political suitability. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to work autonomously and deal effectively and confidentially while also maintaining open communications with those who have a need to know. Ability to seek and adopt best HR practices and accomplish continuous improvements in areas of responsibility. Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and statutes related to Human Resources. Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques.

Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Human Resource Management, Business or closely related field. SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR certification.
