Description

The Associate Simulation Operations Specialist will assist the Professional and Technical Director and the Manager of Simulation and Patient Safety by providing expertise for simulation operations and technology including the execution of simulation-based healthcare training, maintenance and repair of complex computerized high-fidelity mannequins and associated software, and validating data collected during scenarios. The Associate Simulation Operations Specialist is responsible for the setup, takedown, moulage, and programming of requested simulations.  They will also collaborate with stakeholders in the development of program curricula, scenarios, and associated material.

Essential Functions:

Simulation Support
•    Provide setup and takedown for simulations, including manikins/patient simulators, task trainers, equipment, supplies, medicine and code carts, audiovisual equipment, etc.
•    Proficiency with the EMS SIMIQ clinical management operating platform and LLEAP software.  Enter information into EMS SIMiQ for simulator-based scenarios. Program and operate human simulator software (LLEAP) to control physiological changes either on the fly (without or with minimal programming) or using existing programmed scenarios. 
•    Troubleshoot any technical or logistical issue(s) that arise immediately prior to, or during, simulation activities and formulate and enact a solution to the issue.
•    Collaborate with the Institute for Clinical Simulation (ICS) staff, residency/fellowship program directors, medical school faculty, and other stakeholders in curriculum design and development, implementation, and evaluation, of simulation-based activities.
Equipment, Software, and Program Maintenance
•    Assist in maintaining simulation equipment in good working condition.
•    Keep apprised of all emerging technologies affecting simulation and data capture. Evaluate new equipment and identify opportunities for technology improvement.  Research and make recommendations on new technologies. 

Training and Development
•    Lead or assist with technology and simulation best-practice training for faculty and staff, including safe simulation practices.
•    Provide training, support, and consultation to faculty and ICS staff in the technical aspects of simulation, including learning and data management systems.
Backup for the Manager of Simulation and Patient Safety
•    Assist the Manager of Simulation and Patient Safety with the surgical skills training programs, the robotics surgical training center, and the procurement of supplies, instruments, and equipment needed for residency and medical student surgical skills lab modules.
•    Obtain FLS / FES training through ACS/SAGES and become a certified FLS / FES proctor.
•    Maintain FLS / FES testing equipment in good working order and ensure an adequate supply of testing materials.
 
Accreditation Support
•    Work with ICS leadership, faculty, and other staff and stakeholders to prepare documentation to ensure continued accreditation by the American College of Surgeons as a Comprehensive Accredited Education Institute (ACS AEI).
•    Responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff in preparing documents for each simulation, including an agenda, attendance sheet, assessment, evaluation, and other documents required for accreditation. Consult with faculty and staff to ensure the accuracy of scenario documents.
Other
•    Assist with disposable inventory organization, identifying needs, and ordering.
•    Monitors the coordination and scheduling of simulation activities and resources. Prepare an invoice for the activity.
•    Contribute to the development of simulation center policies, procedures, and best practices.
•    Attends departmental and programmatic meetings.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience in Clinical Simulation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required skills and abilities: 
•    Strong written/verbal communication and organizational skills
•    Demonstrated project management
•    Working knowledge of common applicable computer software and ability to learn additional software as necessary
•    Ability to work occasional nights, weekends and overtime
•    Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite
•    Ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff and program participants
•    Ability to stand for several hours.
•    Ability to lift up to 40lbs

Preferred
•    Knowledge of simulation software
•    Knowledge of data capture systems (EMS, SimiQ)
