Position Overview
The Center for Community Health and Development (CCHD) seeks a highly qualified behavioral-community, social or public health scientist to join our leadership team as a Senior Research Associate in Community Youth Development and Prevention (CYPD). We seek a researcher with experience examining positive youth development and prevention, including youth violence prevention and, substance abuse prevention, particularly with marginalized populations and in racial and ethnically diverse communities. The successful candidate must demonstrate experience in community-engaged scholarship, community-based participatory research and evaluation, mixed methods research, project administration, and grant development. The position will advance research and evaluation projects and partnership for the Community Youth Development and Prevention Team of the KU CCHD, including working closely as a member of the leadership team for the the Youth Violence Prevention Center- Kansas City, the ThrYve Youth Opportunities Collaborative and Systems Advisory Board, and in advancing community-engaged scholarship work at KU in partnership with the KU Center for Service Learning. The position may also include support for other smaller research, evaluation, and/or capacity building projects and requires the ability to managing multiple priorities, supervise students and staff, and work in a high-paced dynamic environment.
The position, contingent on renewed funding, will begin November 2022. The position will be at the University of Kansas (KU) and co-located across the Lawrence campus and the Kansas City, KS offices.
Job Description
- (30%) In collaboration with the Center’s community youth development and prevention team, contribute to the CDC-funded Youth Violence Prevention Center’s research program and contribute to or lead other research and service projects. Develop and coordinate community-based research, evaluation and capacity-building projects with community initiatives supporting youth development, adolescent substance abuse prevention and violence prevention efforts. Lead, coordinate, and mentor staff, including a team of undergraduate, graduate student, and post-doctoral researchers supporting the projects. Conduct and lead data collection methods and analyses. Lead and assure the development and maintenance of community partnerships, including facilitating meetings and communications with partners.
- (20%) Conduct and lead research in youth development and community health and development. Oversees development of data collection, monitors integrity of data collection and use of protocols and procedures, including IRB processes. Conducts ongoing, periodic, and final analysis and reporting of data.
- (10%) Coordinate administrative, financial, personnel and planning aspects of projects, including as an investigator. May serve as co-PI or as a PI. Monitors progress and assures attainment of grant/contract deliverables and supervises students and staff. Demonstrate ability and interest to both contribute to existing efforts and develop and lead new grant development and projects as an investigator. Oversee IRB processes and applications for the team.
- (10%) Coordinate the assessment and evaluation activities for several community-engaged projects. Lead and support juvenile justice evaluation capacity building projects. Partner with the Center for Service Learning to advance the assessment and evaluation of community-engaged learning and scholarship. Coordinate the YVPC-KC and ThrYve Data and Funding Collaborative.
- (10%) Develop, support, and pilot novel and innovative research studies that align with research team interests and expands research opportunities with existing projects.
- (10%) Develop, coordinate, and oversee technological supports for community-engaged scholarship, community-based research, and evaluation projects with project staff and community and academic partners. Manage technical assistance and supports with partners in the development and use of online assessment and data collection systems, including the Community Check Box Evaluation System. Provide innovative approaches to address project-related technology needs and improve project functioning in research, evaluation, and/or capacity-building activities.
