About the Role

As an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer of Aerospace/Space Engineering, you will provide leadership and foster excellence in teaching and research efforts in the Aerospace Engineering and Aviation (AE&A) Discipline of the School, within the University, and with the community, professional, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Furthermore, this role will see you:

  • Provide innovative contributions in digital-twin and applied AI technologies, computational modelling and simulation, and/or experimentation relevant, but not limited, to space sciences (e.g., astronautics, satellite design and operations, and related technologies) and flight sciences (e.g., crewed and uncrewed aircraft or spacecraft system design and operations and related technologies)

  • Maintain and advance your scholarly, research, and professional capabilities relevant to this Discipline at a national and international level

  • Teach and make a significant contribution to teaching and learning in the Discipline with the aim of improving learning outcomes for students.

Additionally, an appointee as Associate Professor will make significant contributions to the planning and strategic direction of the School, taking on academic leadership roles on committees within the School, College, and University and external to the University, as appropriate.

About You

To be successful for Level C appointment, you will have:

  • Proven record of academic and/or professional achievement in Aerospace/Space Engineering with a focus on digital-twin and applied AI technologies, computational modelling and simulation, and/or experimentation relevant, but not limited, to space sciences (e.g., astronautics, satellite design and operations, and related technologies) and/or flight sciences (e.g., crewed and uncrewed aircraft and spacecraft system design and operations and related technologies)

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching at higher education level resulting in high student satisfaction

  • Proven ability to undertake high-impact research in the designated field resulting in high-quality journal articles in recognised international journals

  • Proven ability to prepare and win competitive research grants and/or research contracts with industry

  • Demonstrated experience in supervising higher-degree-by-research research students towards successful completion

  • Proven ability to develop high quality teaching and learning resources in the designated field

  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment

  • Demonstrated track record of values and behaviours consistent with RMIT enterprise vision, goals, and strategic plans.

In addition to the above, to be successful for Level D appointment you will have:

  • Ability to direct an award program and to implement program improvements and innovative approaches to student-centred learning and quality improvement

  • Recognised research track record including substantial record of research outputs in high-quality outlets and emerging international recognition with proven expertise in Aerospace/Space Engineering with a focus on digital-twin and applied AI technologies, computational modelling and simulation, and/or experimentation relevant, but not limited, to space sciences (e.g., astronautics, satellite design and operations and related technologies) and/or flight sciences (e.g., crewed and uncrewed aircraft and spacecraft system design and operations and related technologies)

  • Extensive experience in research leadership with the ability to develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to deliver high-quality outcomes, attract and secure external research funding to sustain research effort, and manage funded research projects including with complex budgets and reporting requirements

  • Extensive experience in supervising higher-degree-by-research candidates to maximise research performance

  • Demonstrated ability to lead scholarly development and to manage and supervise academic teams and members

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality-management systems within a university

  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication, and negotiating skills, including the ability to consult with senior executives and external bodies, produce executive reports, and  negotiate strategic directions, outcomes, and targets within a collaborative environment

  • Proven ability as an effective member of a management team that develops and achieves shared goals and objectives

Qualifications:

Mandatory: PhD in Aerospace/Space Engineering or related fields

Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
