Associate Professor or Professor in Exercise or Nutrition Science

About the role

This exciting senior role offers the opportunity for an outstanding academic to join the University of Leicester and the thriving team of physical activity and nutrition researchers within the Diabetes Research Centre and Leicester Biomedical Research Centre. The post will support our world leading translational research in Sports or Medical Sciences, areas where the University of Leicester is ranked second overall in the country by the Research Excellent Framework 2021. In this key role you’ll have the opportunity to work within or across relevant specialities, including epidemiology, measurement, physiology and behavioural sciences. 

You will be responsible for planning and disseminating novel research outputs harnessing the wealth of regional, national and international data available to the Diabetes Research Centre, along with planning and seeking funding for original research. In addition, there will be the opportunity to supervise others, including PhD students, in producing innovative research with a major influence on the discipline of physical activity or nutrition sciences.

About you

This opportunity is available at either Professor or Associate Professor level depending on your experience, knowledge and research outputs – please indicate in your application which position you are most interested in.

To be successful in the role of Associate Professor you will hold a PhD in a relevant subject area and have a track record of outputs that are internationally recognised and world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour. You will be able to demonstrate experience and achievement within physical activity or nutrition research, reflected by a high reputation in the UK and internationally as well as having experience of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level. You will also be able to evidence your future plans for research applications. 

To be successful in the role of Professor, in addition to the above, you will also have experience of successful leadership of a Research Institute, Centre, Group or equivalent unit and leadership of relevant research and professional networks on a national and international level. You will have a track record of substantial external funding through grant capture, consultancy arrangements and/or knowledge exchange projects, meeting the discipline benchmark over a sustained period of time. Additionally you will be able to demonstrate evidence of esteem in professional practice in pursuit of research. You will also have a track record of successful recruitment and supervision of PhD/MD students.
