With an emphasis on tackling social science questions, relevant fields for this search include economics, geography, political science, social psychology, sociology, applied mathematics, statistics, demography, and related disciplines.
Applicants should have a strong methodological background and be able to (1) conduct social science research using advanced quantitative methods; (2) teach and develop courses in research design and statistical methods at the undergraduate level; and (3) take a leadership role in the continuing development of the QSS program with an eye on chairing the program in the future. The person in this position will strengthen ties between QSS and other departments at Dartmouth that rely on statistical and computational methods for research and will teach methods courses in the QSS curriculum. QSS averages approximately 50 majors per year and approximately 20 percent of its graduating students write honors theses. Keen interest in mentoring of undergraduates is a must for the person in this position, along with a demonstrated interest in encouraging students of all backgrounds and disciplinary interests.
