To support these ambitious plans, Birmingham City Business School requires an experienced leader in enterprise and corporate development. The Associate Professor role is a full time permanent contract, and would be ideally suited to those looking for career progression to the next level.

The objective of this role is to network, engage and build relationships with the business community in the region to develop opportunities for expanding the School’s corporate and executive offer. You will lead the Senior Leader Apprenticeship (SLA), acting as the relationship manager for our blue chip corporate clients, and you will direct our Help to Grow Management programme. You will be fully supported by the School’s Business Engagement Team who are responsible for operational administration, co-ordination and event management of our business portfolio.  You will be expected to report to and work with the School’s Senior Management Team to plan the resourcing and systems to support these initiatives. 

You will collaborate with the School’s Associate Director for Business and Corporate Development, and the Associate Director for Research and Enterprise to shape the overall enterprise portfolio of the School, in line with the Faculty and School strategic and operational plans.

You will be expected to contribute to teaching on modules within our executive education portfolio, including the Executive MBA, Senior Leader Apprenticeship course, and the delivery of Help to Grow: Management as appropriate.

As an Associate Professor you will be responsible for: 

  • Further developing our external network with local industry
  • Managing School stakeholders (including line management) to support corporate and executive education
  • Providing academic leadership in the leadership, management and enterprise subject areas, through innovative practice and research
  • Sharing responsibility for enterprise targets, including income generation
  • Leading on the Senior Leader Masters Degree Apprenticeship course and Help to Grow: Management programme
  • Delivering excellence in your teaching and supporting the growth of corporate and executive education
  • Supporting the School’s professional accreditation initiatives
  • Working collaboratively through teamwork with your colleagues to support wider department, School and Faculty objectives.
  • Contributing to the leadership and oversight of the School’s apprenticeship portfolio

Successful applicants will have had previous success in generating third-stream income and have practical experience in business, or in university B2B activity. Candidates may hold a doctorate level qualification in a relevant management subject (PhD, DBA), and/or have equivalent senior industrial leadership experience. Applicants must be able to work collaboratively with University or industry stakeholders.
