About the position

The Faculty of Social Sciences are recruiting for an Associate Professor (or Senior Lecturer) at our campus in Levanger to be part of the teaching team within creative media and technology. The faculty would be prepared to recruit an Assistant Professor (Lecturer), with the expectation that the candidate would actively work towards qualification as Associate Professor. The position would be a permanent full-time position and be based at our Levanger campus. Nord University’s faculties are distributed over several campuses, and co-operation between the wider university is important. As such, occasional travel might be required.

Nord University has a strong reputation within education in the creative disciplines and offers degrees in: Film and TV Production; CG Art and Animation; Games and Entertainment Technology; Music Production; Theatre Production and Acting. Our international creative media programmes are delivered in English. As such, the position requires good oral and written English language skills.

We seek an Animator to design and deliver courses to our students and contribute to research within related topics. Candidates applying for the position of Animator should have a broad skillset in digital art software and experience within animation, VFX or games. Evidence of personal work and contribution to published or commercial projects should support the application.

Duties and responsibilities

The position involves:

teaching and supervision on the creative media programmes
research and development work, including dissemination
contribution to externally funded research projects and applications
collaboration with local, national and international partners

Personal Qualities

The position will serve a prominent role in the development and delivery of the creative media study programmes. Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute to the University’s strategic objectives as a member of the international academic community through research, education, cooperation with business and contribution to society. Research activities should be supported by regional, national and international funding and lead to meaningful output. The position will also include relevant administrative, management and leadership duties. Continuous professional development, and participation in peer-group activities, is also expected.

Qualification requirements

Associate Professor

For employment as an Associate Professor (research-oriented førsteamanuensis in the Norwegian system), a Norwegian doctoral degree is required, within the relevant field of study or an equivalent doctoral degree from abroad that is accepted as a Norwegian equivalent, or competence at a similar level documented by academic publication of the same scope and quality.
For appointment as Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer/teaching-oriented førstelektor in the Norwegian system) the applicant must document artistic activities or development work, research activity, or professional practice at a high international level, which in quality and scope corresponds to the amount of work towards a doctoral degree, in the subject area concerned.

Assistant Professor

For appointment as Assistant Professor (teaching-oriented universitetslektor in the Norwegian system) a master’s degree from a university, university college or equivalent is required, within the relevant field. Alternatively, that the candidate can evidence relevant artistic activities or development work, research activity, or professional practice judged to be equivalent to a postgraduate degree in the subject area concerned.

For all scientific positions:

Teaching experience from university/college and skills in respect of planning, implementation, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. Nord University has supplementary provisions on educational competence. For further information please refer to Nord University’s website . Any applicants who are unable to provide documentary proof of adequate professional educational competence when employed must acquire such competence over the course of a two-year period. Nord University offers such a course on University Pedagogy which covers this requirement.
Language requirements: Good oral and written presentation skills in English and Norwegian, or another Scandinavian language, is a qualification requirement. For applicants who do not have one of the Scandinavian languages as their mother tongue, both oral and written language skills must be documented. Employment in a permanent position assumes that the candidate can document Norwegian/Scandinavian language skills at level A2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For candidates who do not meet the language requirement, employment in a temporary position for up to three years can be considered in order to acquire the necessary language skills. The faculty can make arrangements for participation in language courses and set aside time in the employee’s work plan for this.

The position is compensated according to Norwegian government regulations, code 1011 for associate professor (research-oriented), code 1198 for associate professor (teaching-oriented) and code 1009 for assistant professor. Salary by agreement.

Applicants will be evaluated by an expert committee. Short-listed applicants will be called for an interview and trial lecture. These will be decisive for the appointment.
