Associate Professor

About the opportunity

The Sydney School of Public Health is a network of researchers, research groups, and centres that facilitate the study of public health. Offering educational and research opportunities, the school’s work is recognised as an institutional strength for the University. The school is widely known for its strengths in biostatistics and epidemiology.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Associate Professor in the discipline of biostatistics with expertise in cancer research- to make a significant contribution to our teaching and research programs. These are outstanding opportunities for academics with a strong interest in biostatistics to continue their professional development with a school renowned for its high-quality research and teaching. In particular, the positions will contribute to teaching introductory and advanced biostatistical units offered for several degrees by the School of Public Health and develop methodologic and collaborative research.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Maintain a research profile that meets University expectations and standards and enhances the reputation of the School – including publications in peer-reviewed international journals
  • coordinate and develop curricula and programs within the School/Faculty
  • develop and lead innovative initiatives and original contributions in teaching and learning and curriculum development
  • have a national or international reputation for excellence in their discipline or area of expertise
  • coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences that meet the University’s expectation
  • foster the culture of excellence through their own expertise and by guiding academic staff and students toward success
  • lead and support an academic endeavor from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student-enabling environment.

About you

  • Acknowledgment at a national level as influential in expanding knowledge within the specialty and/or in pedagogical or curriculum innovation
  • demonstrated excellence in research, scholarly activities relevant to the specialty and educational design and practice
  • a deep and broad experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience teaching in a variety of settings
  • an established network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the specialty, School/Faculty and University
  • an understanding of and ability to support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student-enabling environment
  • significant experience supervising others and coordinating team activities
  • national or international reputation in their discipline or area of expertise, with a supporting research profile including publications and evidence of recognition within the broader research community
  • a proven ability to work closely and harmoniously with colleagues and have highly developed interpersonal skills.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
