Therefore, the School of Agriculture and Environmental Science at the University of Southern Queensland is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a First Nations Associate Lecturer or Lecturer to work and teach in the area of ecology, environmental science, natural resource management or closely related disciplines. The successful candidate will join an active and dynamic group of researchers addressing questions pertaining to ecology and environmental science.

The successful candidate will be a First Nations researcher with demonstrated experience in research and teaching in ecology and environmental science related disciplines, such as ecology, environmental science, natural resource management or a related discipline.

Here’s what we need:

• An experienced First Nations academic with a passion for ecological and environmental knowledge, issues and practices, particularly Indigenous land and water management, fire management practices, sustainable wildlife utilisation, caring for Country, and kinship;
• A drive to incorporate First Nations environmental perspectives and knowledge into our teaching and pedagogy in the newly-established Bachelor of Environmental Science, Bachelor of Science and Master of Science programs; and
• An excellent communicator with a demonstrated capacity to develop effective and productive relationships with local First Nations groups including Traditional Owners, Elders and respected community organisations and stakeholders to facilitate educational and research outcomes.

What you’ll do:

Reporting to the Head of School (Agriculture and Environmental Science), you will:

• Contribute to the administration, preparation and delivery of study materials, seminars, tutorials and workshops within the area of ecology and sustainability (including environmental studies, introductory ecology, First Nations environmental perspectives and knowledge, the Australian biota, applied ecology, and sustainability or closely related areas);
• Develop and deliver an undergraduate course in First Nations Environmental Perspectives and Knowledge;
• Develop quality assessments in line with UniSQ’s assessment procedures and contribute to the marking of written and practical assessments; and
• Supervise honours students or postgraduate students in both course work and research projects.

What will help you succeed?

Key to your success in this role will be your strong interpersonal and team-work skills, combined with your demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team. In addition, you will:

• Possess a doctoral qualification (or higher degree with equivalent experience) or postgraduate degree in a relevant scientific field and highly significant and relevant experience in ecology and Indigenous knowledges, or closely related areas such as environmental science or natural resource management.
• Demonstrated capability to develop and deliver high quality teaching of ecology and sustainability courses to students with diverse backgrounds;
• Demonstrated ability to perform high quality research in an area relevant to the School’s research profile.

Salary:  One appointment will be made at Associate Lecturer or Lecturer level, dependent on qualifications and experience.

Total remuneration range $84,683 to $141,128 pa (includes salary range of $71,553 to $119,246 pa, employer superannuation contributions up to 17% of salary and annual leave loading)
