Job Description

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering Office of Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) seeks a highly experienced individual to act as the Associate Director of Student Success and Engagement. The Student Success and Engagement team is responsible for supporting full immersion and digital immersion undergraduate or graduate students as they explore co- and extra-curricular opportunities while also supporting the successful delivery of academic advising. Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Success and Engagement, the Associate Director is part of a team of faculty and staff who are focused on developing a premier student experience while collaborating with department, college, and university teams working together toward goals aimed at improving student persistence to graduation.

Essential Duties

  • Ensures successful advising delivery for all Fulton Schools’ students by coordinating advisor hiring and onboarding while also leading assessment efforts to ensure high quality service delivery.
  • Directs the delivery of co- and extra-curricular student programming.
  • Leads intentionally designed persistence activities to achieve university and college level goals for graduation.
  • Oversees and participates in planning, developing, and administering department budget.
  • Conducts and assists with the development of long- and short-range goals while also assessing accomplishments with the aim of continuously improving and advancing the team’s efforts.
  • Represents the college/department and serves on various department and university committees, including the Advising Administrators Board at ASU.
  • Engages with university technology solutions to ensure successful advising and programming service delivery.
  • Provides advice and information on department programs, policies, and activities.
  • Acts in place of the Director in that person’s absence.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND seven (7) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Eleven (11) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s degree in education or related field
  • Directly relevant experience working in higher education specifically in academic advising
  • Experience with academic advising administration (supervision, planning, and assessment)
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, My Reports, Analytics, student information systems, or financial information systems
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail
  • Experience supporting diverse student populations
  • Experience with event programming
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, ability to adapt to new priorities
  • Evidence of effective communication skills

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
