Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, Student Health & Wellbeing is responsible for the leadership and management of strategic initiatives within the Student Health & Wellbeing portfolio in the VP Students department. This includes researching and developing project proposals, program and project planning, comprehensive assessment design and implementation, assessment and evaluation of outcome measures, identifying and recommending new and innovative approaches, and providing managerial oversight to cross-functional projects and initiatives.

The incumbent works closely with the Chief Student Health Officer, Student Health & Wellbeing and Directors of the health and wellbeing units (Counselling Services, Student Health Services, and Student Health Equity, Promotion & Education, and VP Students Office). The incumbent provides leadership and management towards the achievement of innovative and integrated health-system delivery models and ensuring unit operations align with the strategic goals of the portfolio. This position develops cross-unit strategic plans, policies, and processes and fosters effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Organizational Status
This position reports to the Chief Student Health Officer, Student Health & Wellbeing and works closely with the Student Health & Wellbeing portfolio, a department in the Vice President Students portfolio. VP Students portfolio works in partnership with faculties and other campus service providers to offer a range of opportunities and services that positively impact students
experiences and assist in their ability to learn and prepare themselves for engagement in the University, community, industry and workplaces. VP Students portfolio facilitates a variety of enriched educational experiences, offers programming to support student health and wellbeing and works collaboratively across the university to create an engaging and inclusive learning
environment.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with a wide variety of Directors and staff across Student Health and Wellbeing. Additionally, the incumbent will connect with faculty and researchers in the Student Health and Wellbeing area and may also liaise with other UBC units, faculty and staff on campus, as well as external organizations and the public.
Work Performed
Leads and manages strategic initiatives, projects and activities to support achievement of goals across the student health and wellbeing portfolio.

Undertakes research and assessment of portfolio work, including the design of service and program assessment resulting in new and innovative services for students.
Engages and influences leaders and stakeholders in units across the VPS portfolio and Faculties to adopt and integrate approaches and standards to support student health and wellbeing.
Provides project management direction to cross-functional teams. Establishes project timelines, milestones, deliverables, tracks project and activity progress and ensures timelines are met.

Manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of student health and wellbeing initiatives including new services, programs, policies, and systems.
Leads the synthesis and compilation of information from a variety of sources into reports, summaries, and presentations, for circulation internally within Student Health and Wellbeing, to other UBC faculty and staff or to external partners or agencies, exercising discretion with content.
Creates and develops research proposals, research project reports, ethics submissions, submissions of research conferences presentations, outcomes summaries, and other research communications. Manages operations and special project budgets, including the development and writing of research grants and requests for funding. Develops business cases and funding proposals for new initiatives.
Manages the work of committees and groups chaired by the Chief Student Health Officer, Student Health & Wellbeing, providing required research and background material and agenda development.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Consequence of Error/Judgement

Inaccurate information or poor advice regarding strategic initiatives will cost the university resources and impact the quality of student health at UBC. Inability to effectively manage projects and programs may result in a negative experience for staff, faculty, parents and students, thus impacting their perception of UBC.
Failure to use excellent judgment or a direct consequence of error affects the quality of service a student receives from UBC and may impact student, alumni, employer and public perceptions of student services and/or the university, including the university s reputation. Incorrect decisions can also impact unit operations, budgets and the reputation of the department and the University.
Supervision Received
This position reports to Chief Student Health Officer, Student Health & Wellbeing. Works independently under broad directions and minimum guidelines. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement of broad objectives.
Supervision Given
May supervise the work of administrative staff or student employees.
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. A Master s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. Minimum of five to six years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven leadership and strategic planning in a complex work environment.
Experience in developing, managing, supporting and evaluating programs.
Ability to create, develop, implement and evaluate complex programs and projects, while paying attention to the local context, unique client needs, and needs of the institution.
Highly effective interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders including academic and administrative leaders, practitioners, and staff.
Ability to respect and work effectively with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated understanding and proven advancement of issues relating to equity and inclusion, cultural safety and social justice, and actively embeds this learning in their work. Demonstrates a strong personal commitment to removing barriers preventing the inclusion of equity deserving groups and embraces working with students, staff and faculty who hold a range of worldviews
Ability to exercise a high level of diplomacy, tact and discretion when working with information of a confidential or sensitive nature and in dealing with various levels of senior administration and external agencies.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities, take initiative, work under pressure and meet deadlines within allocated time and resources.
Experience leading and managing programs, projects, and people towards clear and defined outcomes, while demonstrating the ability to adapt and change in the face of new information.

Intermediate to Advanced level computer experience required (Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Teams, Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as a variety of video conferencing, virtual meeting spaces).
