Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, Student Health & Wellbeing is responsible for the leadership and management of strategic initiatives within the Student Health & Wellbeing portfolio in the VP Students department. This includes researching and developing project proposals, program and project planning, comprehensive assessment design and implementation, assessment and evaluation of outcome measures, identifying and recommending new and innovative approaches, and providing managerial oversight to cross-functional projects and initiatives.
The incumbent works closely with the Chief Student Health Officer, Student Health & Wellbeing and Directors of the health and wellbeing units (Counselling Services, Student Health Services, and Student Health Equity, Promotion & Education, and VP Students Office). The incumbent provides leadership and management towards the achievement of innovative and integrated health-system delivery models and ensuring unit operations align with the strategic goals of the portfolio. This position develops cross-unit strategic plans, policies, and processes and fosters effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Organizational Status
This position reports to the Chief Student Health Officer, Student Health & Wellbeing and works closely with the Student Health & Wellbeing portfolio, a department in the Vice President Students portfolio. VP Students portfolio works in partnership with faculties and other campus service providers to offer a range of opportunities and services that positively impact students
experiences and assist in their ability to learn and prepare themselves for engagement in the University, community, industry and workplaces. VP Students portfolio facilitates a variety of enriched educational experiences, offers programming to support student health and wellbeing and works collaboratively across the university to create an engaging and inclusive learning
environment.
The incumbent will work collaboratively with a wide variety of Directors and staff across Student Health and Wellbeing. Additionally, the incumbent will connect with faculty and researchers in the Student Health and Wellbeing area and may also liaise with other UBC units, faculty and staff on campus, as well as external organizations and the public.
Work Performed
Leads and manages strategic initiatives, projects and activities to support achievement of goals across the student health and wellbeing portfolio.
Undertakes research and assessment of portfolio work, including the design of service and program assessment resulting in new and innovative services for students.
Engages and influences leaders and stakeholders in units across the VPS portfolio and Faculties to adopt and integrate approaches and standards to support student health and wellbeing.
Provides project management direction to cross-functional teams. Establishes project timelines, milestones, deliverables, tracks project and activity progress and ensures timelines are met.
Manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of student health and wellbeing initiatives including new services, programs, policies, and systems.
Leads the synthesis and compilation of information from a variety of sources into reports, summaries, and presentations, for circulation internally within Student Health and Wellbeing, to other UBC faculty and staff or to external partners or agencies, exercising discretion with content.
Creates and develops research proposals, research project reports, ethics submissions, submissions of research conferences presentations, outcomes summaries, and other research communications. Manages operations and special project budgets, including the development and writing of research grants and requests for funding. Develops business cases and funding proposals for new initiatives.
Manages the work of committees and groups chaired by the Chief Student Health Officer, Student Health & Wellbeing, providing required research and background material and agenda development.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Intermediate to Advanced level computer experience required (Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Teams, Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as a variety of video conferencing, virtual meeting spaces).
