The Associate Director is a live-off position supervising full-time Assistant Directors, and will be indirectly responsible for a team of paraprofessional student staff members (Gryphons). The Associate Director will help oversee department-wide processes and initiatives, specifically Gryphon Recruitment, Selection, Training & Development. The Associate Director will also assist with implementing department strategic planning to further develop a comprehensive and high-achieving residential program at Lehigh. 1. Assistant Director Supervision and Development:
*Provide leadership and supervision to a team of 2-3 Assistant Directors, and potentially one Graduate Assistant or summer ACUHO-I intern, as well as indirectly supervise a team of approximately 50-70 Gryphons
*Work with the Assistant Dean and Director to coordinate the recruitment, selection and onboarding processes for Assistant Directors and the Graduate Assistant
*Provide individual guidance and support to Assistant Directors, including facilitating weekly one-on-one meetings
*Work in conjunction with the Assistant Dean and Director to provide ongoing coaching and feedback to Assistant Directors, in accordance with departmental expectations and University performance review practices
*Work with the Assistant Directors to monitor Gryphon performance to provide continuous student staff development, implementing progressive discipline as needed and evaluating Gryphons each semester
*Work with the Assistant Dean and Director to support the successful implementation of Assistant Director department-wide projects and initiatives
*Work with the Assistant Dean and Director to identify and develop opportunities for ongoing professional development for Assistant Directors as part of the department’s curricular approach
*Provide direct guidance and support to Gryphon staff in absence of an Assistant Director

2. Oversight of Gryphon Recruitment, Selection, Training and Development or Curriculum and Advising Initiatives
*Responsible for the overall implementation and management of the Gryphon recruitment and selection process in conjunction with a comprehensive student staff training curriculum that includes ongoing Gryphon professional development strategies, or the implementation and management of the department’s curricular approach and advising initiatives that include a residential curriculum, theme community program, faculty-in-residence program and Residence Hall Association

3. Departmental Strategic Initiatives and Assessment
*Determine actionable steps for the creation and implementation of department strategic plans, including vision for short and long-term planning
*Support the Assistant Dean and Director in the development of semester and year-long office goals, as well as planning and implementation of department strategic planning days throughout the year
*Serve as an integral member of the Residence Life leadership team by attending regular staff meetings, and assisting in the planning and facilitating of professional development and staff development initiatives
*Work in conjunction with the Assistant Dean and Director to support the implementation and refinement of a variety of educational and community development strategies to foster residents’ continued engagement with bLUeprint, Lehigh’s student life curriculum
*Actively work to build relationships with faculty and staff across campus to cultivate a collaborative work environment, and explore ways to integrate campus partners into the goals and operations of Residence Life
*Assist in the stewardship of a fiscally responsible department budget
*Use technology for effective department management and communication
*Actively participate in personal professional development opportunities and share insights and learning to inform Residence Life practices and procedures

4. Community Oversight and Incident Management
*Serve as a leader in demonstrating an ongoing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, including support the implementation of Lehigh’s Principles of our Equitable Community and responding as needed with community interventions
*Assist with elevated student and residential crisis response efforts as needed, including serving as a member of the Dean of Students on-call rotation
*Serve as an administrative hearing officer to address adjudication efforts in support of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Expectations when needed
*Work in conjunction with the Assistant Dean and Director to actively review and evaluate duty response protocols for the department, including maintenance and upkeep of the Gryphon Duty Manual and other department duty manuals as needed
*Liaise with families and campus partners to address concerns and resolve conflicts; meet with students to resolve roommate conflicts and community living concerns when needed
*Monitor submission and follow-up on incident reports, providing feedback and coaching to Assistant Directors and Gryphons on incident response and documentation
*Opportunities are also available to serve on the University Committee on Discipline, as well as become a Gender Violence Education and Support Advocate

5. Dean of Students and Student Affairs Involvement
Serve as part of the larger Dean of Students team, including opportunities to participate in various Dean of Students and Student Affairs working groups and committees
*When asked to serve on various working groups and committees, fully participate and attend meetings, keep Assistant Dean and Director updated on involvement and accomplishments and respectfully represent the Office of Residence Life
*Attend and participate in regular Dean of Students staff meetings, professional development opportunities and retreats
*Attend University, Division of Student Affairs and departmental functions throughout the year to represent Residence Life and support campus partner office initiatives
*Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Director

The duties of this position may allow the employee to work partially remote as deemed appropriate by the supervisor

Evening and weekend work will be required

Will often be required to talk, see, sit, stand, walk, use hands to touch, handle or feel, pull or push, lift up to 25 pounds, and work in a typical office environment

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Organizational Leadership, Counseling or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Three to five years related work experience

Supervisory experience preferred

Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a high level of customer service required

Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships 

Excellent organizational skills, time management and sound judgment

Solid computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet and database software

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position

All Lehigh faculty and staff are required to be fully vaccinated and receive a booster shot six months after their second vaccine; unless they receive an approved medical or religious exemption from the requirement.
