ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY LABS

The Associate Director of Organic Chemistry Laboratories in the Department of Chemistry plays an important instructional role. This position offers opportunities for shaping the undergraduate organic chemistry curriculum and for participating in the nationally recognized chemical education and outreach activities in the Chemistry Department. The incumbent will collaborate closely with faculty and other laboratory directors. This position reports to the director of the Organic Chemistry Laboratories.
This position requires some evening lab supervision.
This position will teach one lecture course (CHEM 343 – Organic Chemistry 1 or CHEM 345 – Organic Chemistry 2) and co-teach one laboratory course (CHEM 344 – Intro Organic Chemistry Lab) per academic semester and during the 8-week summer session.

• 10% Designs curriculum and/or techniques for instruction in a disciplinary area and suggests new ways of effective instruction in courses within discipline
• 5% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
• 10% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and trains faculty and other instructional staff in use of instructional techniques and programs. Presents evaluations of teaching methods and techniques to those in the institution and elsewhere
• 30% Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
• 5% Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
• 5% Develops grant proposals for instructional development and may serve as principal or co-principal investigator on grants to develop new teaching methods in the discipline. May administer budget and personnel for instructional grants and programs
• 10% Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
• 5% Oversees curriculum design and instruction of other instructors
• 10% Leads unit level course programming and alignment with unit policy, procedures, guidelines, and instructional focus
• 5% Advises unit director on instructional budget and personnel decisions
• 5% Provides professional development around curriculum development and program implementation to support other instructors in the unit

Required
PhD or other terminal degree, or a degree at least one level above the level of instruction, or otherwise approved as qualified by the Dean
Ph.D. Organic Chemistry or closely related field.

A minimum of two semesters of experience teaching undergraduate organic chemistry lectures/discussion/laboratories at the university level is required.

Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
