Associate Director of Information Technology (Hybrid)

In this Associate Director of Information Technology position, you will have a key role in supporting the Foundation’s strategic business goals through the assessment, procurement, implementation, operation, and security of IT systems. You will support the day-to-day operations and management of the Foundation IT systems and client applications, including but not limited to security, server installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance. In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Foundation system security meets all industry standards at a minimum. This position may require off-hour work related to Foundation meetings and events, systems maintenance and/or emergency systems issues in collaboration with the Senior Director of IT and Cybersecurity.

Primary Responsibilities:

Systems Operations

  • Oversee and perform daily network and security operations, system administration, and change management.
  • Installing, configurating, and maintaining server systems and Foundation application, including all cloud hosted systems.
  • Collaborate with Advancement Services staff to provide training on new systems implementation and rollouts.
  • Infrastructure planning and design to provide for the business IT system needs as driven by the Foundation’s strategic goals.
  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date services catalog including but not limited to approved server and desktop operating system images, baselines, file services, and third-party software repositories.
  • Use of the appropriate automation tools to automate administrative tasks, such as scripting.
  • Participate in DevOps tasks, such as code promotion.
  • Creates and updates IT system documentation, including development of best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of information security activities including access management, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, infrastructure, and regulatory compliance with privacy laws.
  • Assist with security reviews and risk assessments, identify gaps in security architecture, coordinates security audits and penetration testing, remediates security audit findings, and develop a security risk management plan resulting in recommendations for inclusion in the risk mitigation strategy.
  • Analyze business needs and oversee security architecture, administration, and policy planning to reduce the risk of security breach.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and direction on best practices for the protection of information.
  • Preserves the integrity of the company’s patch and vulnerability programs through automation frameworks.
  • Assess, implement, and maintain technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
  • Creates comprehensive reports including assessment-based findings, outcomes, and propositions for further system security enhancement.

IT Team Operations

  • Serves as back up to the Senior Director of IT and Cybersecurity, as needed and delegated.
  • In coordination with Senior Director of IT and Cybersecurity, responsible for policy creation, budget recommendations, procurement, and contract negotiation.
  • Provides guidance in the creation of staff IT equipment replacement strategies.
  • Responsible for timely and effective response of Tier II helpdesk requests and staffing the helpdesk when necessary.
  • Mentor IT staff to help develop their technical and professional skills.
  • Leads IT team efforts toward system compliance, automation, and simplification.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    • Configuration and management of cloud services such as Microsoft Azure.
    • Management of enterprise storage technologies and backups.
    • IT Security management, including DR and business continuity planning.
    • SQL Server and web server administration
    • Managing firewall and other security technologies.
    • Hypervisor configuration and management.
  • Knowledge of operations automation scripting and programming a plus.
  • Requires lifting up to 25 pounds, moving equipment and the ability to move a rolling cart.
  • Ability to work to the demands of the position, which may exceed a 40-hour work week.
  • Must be able to travel to Foundation locations outside of Storrs, CT, or other designated work sites to provide help desk support for staff meetings, Board meetings, staff events, etc.
