Associate Director of Admissions

The Associate Director of Admissions, under the direction of the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid, serves as an integral member of the Admissions team. This position provides strategic and operational support to the Office of Admissions. The Associate Director administers, implements, and interprets both University and Law School policies and procedures on admissions issues and will identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues. The Associate Director supervises two staff members and oversees all technical aspects of our collaboration with the Law School Admission Council and appropriate University systems.

Core Duties:

  • Collaborate with others to help resolve admissions issues, concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues. Evaluate and recommend departmental improvements.
  • Provide direct advice to prospective applicants about on a range of admissions/application processes and about SLS in general; provide direct advice to admitted students about SLS programs, curriculum and policies
  • Manage the daily routine of the admissions process (approximately 5000 JD applications, approximately 200 transfer applications, approximately 1000 postgraduate applications)
  • Maintain the admissions database in PeopleSoft
  • Serve as the law admissions point person for PeopleSoft with colleagues across the University; serve as subject matter expert to other departments
  • Manage and maintain the ACES2 database through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) and will be instrumental in the adoption of the new Unite database
  • Identify and evaluate data needs, manage the implementation and development of technology. Resolve technical issues and provide technical expertise in implementation of any new technical enhancements
  • Interpret statistical data from LSAC and other sources
  • Summarize data from multiple sources, prepare and manage reports. Manage, and act on, data requests for extraction of data from ACES2 and PeopleSoft
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to prospective students and other departments; represent unit/department.
  • Manage and maintain the general admissions website and the admitted student’s website; also contribute to design of these sites
  • Create and/or contribute to the development of sound workflow and business practices by collaborating with others to help resolve program issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues
  •  Implement plans for outreach efforts by assisting with the design of the annual recruitment calendar; serving as point person for event planning and implementation of on-site and off-site recruitment events for both prospective and admitted students (Admit Weekend, other receptions, etc)
  • Represent SLS at various recruiting events across the country – both in-person and virtually
  • Coordinate and direct recruitment visits for alumni and students
  • Coordinate and direct individual admit visits
  • Manage and direct all mailings
  • Serve as liaison with LSAC for decision/deposit overlap processes
  • Assist with content of marketing materials
  • Prepare and analyze numerous admissions surveys
  • Train and supervise staff
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant work experience in the admissions field, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
  • Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced technical/computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced customer service skills.
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
  • Understanding of financial transactions.
  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in admissions and/or student services fields
  • Experience in marketing
  • Experience/familiarity with web design
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and enrollment management technology
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Strong organizational, counseling, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to act with tact, sensitivity and good judgment
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to handle multiple tasks/projects
  • Strong commitment to professional development
