ATTENTION:

The Office of Pre-College Programs, in the Department of Student Diversity, Engagement and Success at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks an Associate Director for the Office of Pre-College Programs (Pre-College Services Associate Director (B), OE025).

Academic Staff positions are provided fixed-term appointments with annual renewals unless otherwise noted. Reappointments for subsequent terms is dependent upon performance, University funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

The Associate Director for the Office of Pre-College Programs supports program supervision, programming, and reporting.  This position will work with staff to understand student needs, coordinate delivery of services to meet these needs, and provide ongoing support as needed to meet program goals.  The person in this position will hold a key role in data management and reporting, developing and maintaining collaborations with campus and community partners, as well as developing curriculum for both academic year and summer programming.  The person in this position is able to maintain a sense of humor, demonstrate high levels of creativity and trust, and show dedication to student success for all Pre-College participants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

·     Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, Student Personnel, Psychology, Sociology, or related fields

·     Minimum of 1 year full-time professional experience in the area of student support programming and administration

·     Documented experience in:

·         Staff supervision

·         Project coordination

·         Database management

·         Budget development

·     Demonstrated ability to work with low-income, academically disadvantaged and potential first-generation college students by applying student developmental theory

Highly Desired Qualifications:

·     A background similar to that of the project participants

·     Five years full time administrative experience in a higher education setting or three years full time of increasingly responsible experience with TRIO programs and/or Federal/State grant programs, or student services work at the college level

·     Experience in federal reporting and policy development

·     Experience in programs involving education and/or counseling of youth

·     Experience with implementation of Youth Protection Policies

·     Knowledge and experience with TRIO Programs

·     Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and US Department of Education policies

·     Ability to write academic camp curriculum

·     Demonstrated capability to supervise project personnel

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·     Ability to work occasional nights/weekends and extended summer hours

·     Ability to occasionally travel to target schools in Milwaukee and Racine

·     Strong background in collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data to varying audience

·     Good organizational skills with a high degree initiative to learn new things, adaptability, and ability to work both collaboratively and independently to achieve goals

·     Experience providing guidance to staff in order to achieve organizational goals

·     Experience leading workshops, programs, or units within an organization

·     Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·     Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

·     Valid driver’s license

·     Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

A. Supervision

1.    Supervise and evaluate FTE, Graduate Coordinators, undergraduate student staff, and summer instructors.

2.    Provide training and oversight for academic advising processes including educational opportunities and financial aid policies.

B. Program Development and Facilitation

1.    Work closely with Pre-College Director to meet program goals and outcomes.

2.    Support, supervise, facilitate, and attend Saturday College programming and Summer Academic Camps.

3.    Coordinate, attend, and facilitate Pre-College student and staff development workshops.

4.    Oversees the development and implementation of strategies for program publicity, determination of participant eligibility, methods of recruitment, documentation, and follow-up services.

C. Outreach

1.    Oversee academic year advising process including training of advisors and recruiting for program.

2.    Maintain relationships with K-12 teachers and guidance counselors at target schools.

3.    Collaborate with other departments on campus to maintain educational and administrative supports for program students.

4.    Serve as point person for campus visits supported by Pre-College Programs.

5.    Coordinate school fair visitations.

6.    Represents the college as a speaker/presenter in high schools, service clubs, community events, and other activities of a similar nature. 

D. Data Management and Reporting

1.    Maintain database for federal, state, and campus reporting.

2.    Compilation, analysis, and submission of federal, state, and campus reporting.

3.    As a member of a team, evaluate applicants to the program and support tracking process.

E. Curriculum Development

1.    Develop innovative curriculum for Upward Bound academic year advising sessions.

2.    Develop and coordinate summer academic camp curriculum through creative lesson plans.

F. Other

1.    Assist Director with grant development.

2.    Area technology coordinator related to hardware, webpage development, networking sites, etc.

3.    Participate in professional development related to program services.

4.    This position is considered a position of trust as an Authorized Adult and is a Mandatory Reporter.

5.    Assume other duties as assigned by Director of the Office of Pre-College Programs.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $45,750 – $55,750.
