The
Department of Human Centered Design is seeking an Associate Director for the Cornell
Fashion and Textile Collection ( CF
+TC).   This is a 12 month, 3 year term
Lecturer position with the possibility of renewal.

The
Associate Director will guide the operational planning efforts for the CF+TC
and oversee facility operations,  exhibitions and access to the collection.  In addition, this individual will collaborate
with faculty and students for research,
teaching, and creative design work involving the CF+TC collections; curate
exhibitions and advise student curators;
supervise student staff; oversee CF+TC volunteers; provide guidance to graduate
student Teaching and Research Assistants; contribute to efforts related to
exhibitions and public engagement; assist with grant-writing; and be involved
with fundraising efforts and events in collaboration with the Alumni Affairs
and Development office. In consultation with the CF+TC Director, the
Associate
Director will perform a full range of activities to
ensure the teaching, research, and exhibition mission of the collection is
upheld.

In addition to collection oversight, the Associate Director will
teach courses in the areas of fashion design, history, management, and related
fields and conduct service on an as-needed basis, in consultation with the
Department Chair.

Qualifications

  • Master’s
    Degree in museum studies, fashion/costume history, conservation, design and/or
    product development, or related fields
  • Minimum three years full-time experience working with fashion
    and textile materials in a museum/library/university study collection setting
  • Minimum 3
    years’ experience in a university teaching role
  • Minimum 3
    years’ experience curating fashion exhibitions
  • Experience working in teams, as well as independently, and
    meeting departmental goals
  • Strong subject knowledge in fashion history and preservation
  • Knowledge of conservation issues and policies
  • Experience with relevant technologies, including literacy in
    commonly used computer applications, database experience, and excellent
    keyboarding skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance multiple
    tasks/responsibilities/demands for time.
  • Ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with all
    constituencies
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and/or weekends
  • Supervisory
    experience preferred
