A Day in the Life… 

The Associate Director, Co-operative Education and Workplace Partnerships is responsible for the strategic oversight and direction of operation for all Co-op degree programs at both the Undergraduate and the Graduate levels as well as industry partnerships for student and new graduate on campus recruitment across the institution. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing recruitment, admission, retention, and engagement collaboration for co-op students with cross functional, multi-disciplinary units on campus.

The Associate Director, Co-operative Education and Workplace Partnerships will work with academic departments and Faculties to enhance the quality of respective co-op degree programs in terms of students’, employers’ and faculties’ satisfaction. The incumbent also leads the on-campus student recruitment strategy of cultivating existing and potential co-op and new graduate opportunities and partnerships, supporting policy and management guidelines, and representing the University in issues pertaining to co-operative education and workplace partnerships with industry.

As the Associate Director, Co-operative Education and Workplace Partnerships, you will: 

• Develop strategy to engage and retain local, provincial, national, and international organizations for the purpose of developing campus recruitment partnerships based on research on labour market, business development, innovation, and creativity;
• Liaise with internal departments such as Deans, Associate Deans and Chairs regarding co-operative education and workplace partnerships, and develop staff skills to liaise effectively with Faculties;
• Build and manage co-op alumni engagement strategy to help expand our industry outreach and partnerships;
• Ensure strategic alignment with Faculties and departments within Brock to help promote and enhance the reputation of their Co-op degree programs;
• Develop understanding of the diversity and variety of academic programs in order to deliver resources and manage all co-op programs and workplace partnerships;
• Lead the identification, development and implementation of projects to improve service and program quality, relationships, stakeholder satisfaction, staff capability and performance;
• Ensure all marketing communication, collateral and the University Calendar for co-op programs are up to date;
• Liaise with appropriate University teams to ensure policies in areas related to coo-operative education and workplace partnerships including but not limited to learning contracts, AODA compliance, MCU, Strategic Mandate Agreement, and Affiliation Agreements are being adhere to and updated as required;
• Develop and report on data and metrics that tie into strategic aspects as it pertains to the complex and vast data collected across co-operative education and employer partnerships;
• Manage co-operative education budget and contribute to the department’s annual budget process;
• Prepare progress reports and statistics to demonstrate progress and KPI attainment;
• Lead, manage, provide oversight, and support a multi-disciplined team employee lifecycle.

What you need to Succeed…

• Graduate degree in a related field or the equivalent of education and experience;
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in co-op/career and experiential education, including responsibility for the management of co-op professionals;
• Strong understanding of co-op education, priorities, and the strategic role co-op education has in a university environment;
• Strong understanding of career planning methodology and recruitment practices, including the strategic role talent partnerships play in a University environment;
• Ability to manage a multidisciplined, highly productive staff team operating in a very competitive province-wide environment;
• Advanced knowledge of effective sales and relationship management practices;
• Knowledge and understanding of businesses and industries locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally;
• Competency with budgeting, strategic, and financial planning;
• Computer proficiency with MS Office, database software, and social media;
• Strong customer service orientation, with the proven ability to build long-term relationship with diverse groups;
• Demonstrated effectiveness in coaching and mentoring with a commitment to teamwork and integrity;
• Adept at working collaboratively to develop synergies and partnerships that serve a common purpose;
• Strong critical thinking, problem solving, strategic planning skills, and ability to conceptualize and propose new initiatives;
• Innovative, flexible, quick learner with the ability to adapt to change and work with ambiguity.

Preferred or Asset Skills… 

• Graduate degree; and
• Human Resources certification (CHRP, CHRL, CHRE).

Salary and Benefit Information

• Job Grade (O), Salary Scale ($83,440-$143,040)*;
• Target Hiring Range: $83,440-$110,000;
• This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.
• The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
