A Day in the Life… 

The Associate Director, Career Education is central to advancing Brock University’s leadership across the country as a leader in career education, including career-related co-curricular experiential learning. The incumbent is responsible for the strategic direction of the institution’s multi-disciplinary, complex University-wide career and co-curricular experiential education, including Campus Central Career Education operations, the Goodman School of Business Career Education operations, and the Co-Curricular Experiential Learning operations, including the highly regarded Plus Programs. The Associate Director will work with others across CCEE, academic departments, and Faculties to ensure that career education opportunities are of the highest quality and that the leadership in the University’s highly regarded career and co-curricular programs continue to thrive.

As the Associate Director, Career Education, you will: 

  • Ensure strategic alignment with Faculties and departments within Brock to help support their department’s needs as it pertains to career education and skills articulation of students;
  • Develop understanding of the diversity and variety of academic programs in order to deliver resources and manage all career education services and co-curricular learning programs, and community partnerships at the strategic level across the University;
  • Oversee the building and management of community engagement strategy as it pertains to co-curricular experiential education to expand our community outreach and partnerships;
  • Oversee the development and implementation of new co-curricular experiential education programs;
  • Work cross-functionally with various institutional partners to ensure the adoption and usage of complex technical systems to track and maintain career outcomes and student experiences in the Student Experience Record (SER);
  • Review, establish and monitor operational processes in the Goodman Career and Career Education office for all undergraduate and graduate level students, reviewing for best practices, efficiencies and opportunities for innovation;
  • Monitor business practices provincially, nationally and internationally;
  • Lead the identification, development and implementation of projects to improve service and program quality, relationships, stakeholder satisfaction, staff capability and performance;
  • Ensure equity, diversity and inclusion best practices are embedded at the foundational level of all career education services;
  • Develop and report on data and metrics that tie into strategic aspects of the University’s strategic plan as it pertains to the complex and vast data collected across career education operations;
  • Manage Career Education’s budget and contribute to the department’s annual budget process;
  • Lead, manage, provide oversight, and support a multi-disciplined team employee lifecycle.

What you need to Succeed…

  • Graduate Degree (or relevant experience) and a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the field of career education/services, adult education with program and policy development, preferably in an academic sector;
  • Experience with research in career education theories, team development, management and/or monitoring and reporting on career education programs;
  • A minimum of five (5) years previous experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role, including strategic planning functions;
  • Advanced knowledge of effective sales and relationship management practices;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in coaching, mentoring and relationship building;
  • Advanced knowledge in one or more of the following areas applicable to career education, industry trends, and labour market demands;
  • Competency with budgeting, strategic and financial planning;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and the ability to keep up-to-date with best practices in career development, adult education, and online programming in career education;
  • Advanced knowledge and use of computer applications, including MS Office suite, specialized career education software and social media;
  • Adept at working collaboratively to develop synergies and partnerships that serve a common purpose;
  • Advanced communications skills (verbal, written and interpersonal) and listening skills;
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and motivate individuals, working with diverse groups to strategize career objectives;
  • Strong judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to develop, track and interpret key metrics and analytics;
  • Commitment to teamwork and integrity.

Preferred or Asset Skills… 

  • Career Development Practitioner’s certification; and
  • Human Resources certification (CHRP, CHRL, CHRE).

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade (O), Salary Scale ($83,440-$143,040)*;
  • Target Hiring Range: $83,440-$100,000;
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.
  • The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
