Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:
Assist and advise the Dean of the College of Pharmacy (COP) on administration and all matters relating to the College’s research activities and graduate education, including facilities, finance, development, and policy. Assume responsibility for the College in the Dean’s absence.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In the area of Research Development:
Lead the College’s research enterprise by identifying new research opportunities, encouraging research collaborations, and facilitating new research programs.
Direct and support research, research education, external funding, and the College’s overall research and scholarship portfolio to include students, post-docs, and faculty.
Provide leadership by initiating opportunities for collaborative grant development and submission and identifying faculty who can serve as resources for research efforts and initiatives.
Serve as the liaison between the College and the University’s Office of Research, responsible for all matters relating to conducting research such as IP, IRB, IACUC, Responsible Conduct of Research, Scientific Rigor, and Reproducibility training.
Assist in developing and securing of federal program and training grants to support the College’s research and graduate program needs, such as COBRE and T-series grants, in addition to NIH, NSF, USDA, and FDA, as well as state, industry, and foundation funding opportunities.
Create mechanisms in the College to support faculty throughout the proposal development process for submission to extramural funding agencies.
In the area of Graduate Program Development:
Oversee the College’s graduate program, including the recruitment, admission, retention, and implementation of the MS and PhD components of the dual degree programs, e.g., PharmD/PhD and MS/PharmD.
Make recommendations about matters of curriculum and creation of certificate and master’s degree programs.
Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Student/Academic Affairs, department chairs, and graduate track coordinators to ensure a fair assignment of teaching assistantship and scholarship.
In the area of Faculty/Staff/Student Development:
Ensure regular and clear communication of expectations with research faculty, staff, students, and College leadership.
Provide clear expectations, timely reviews, and professional development opportunities for the office staff.
Ensure the inclusivity and equity of all research and graduate programs and develop innovative, evidence-based curricular and co-curricular programming.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Represent the Dean on University committees and in professional meetings as required.
Perform other duties as delegated by the Dean.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Software (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, graphics, and database management).
Required QualificationsREQUIRED:
1. PharmD/Ph.D. or Ph.D. in the Health Sciences field.
2. Minimum of ten years of academic leadership experience at the department, college, and/or university levels.
3. Demonstrated record of collaboration and leadership with intra- and inter-professional teams.
4. Demonstrated organizational development skills (i.e., to manage and mentor early career faculty, researchers, and student teams).
5. Demonstrated ability to be a participant in and leader of a diverse community of scholars.
6. Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex relationships and interact with the various internal and external constituents of a state university.
7. Demonstrated research portfolio supported by evidence of multidisciplinary research, established publication record, and extramural funding.
8. Demonstrated understanding of research-related policy including human subjects, clinical trials, animal research, and institutional review boards (e.g., IRB and IACUC).
9. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
10. Demonstrated proficiency with written communication skills.
11. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED:
1. Demonstrated experience securing and leading large collaborative and programmatic grants in the pharmaceutical/biomedical sciences or basic/applied clinical health sciences field.
2. Demonstrated ability in fundraising/working with the pharmaceutical industry and implementing effective donor engagement strategies that enhance the resource base of the College.
3. Demonstrated teaching experience as a faculty member in professional and graduate programs at a US academic institution.
