Salary:   AM1 £63,280 – £69,907 pa on achieving designated skills and experience

Four-year tenured appointment as Associate Dean

This is a substantive post as an Academic Manager in the School of Health and Social Work. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Associate Dean – Academic Quality (Practice Enhancement) on a four-year renewable basis, subject to performance. There is no guarantee that this appointment will be extended or renewed beyond the four-year period and if it is not, the post holder will revert to a role commensurate with current responsibilities and pay. 

Main duties and responsibilities

This position is combined with the substantive academic appointment of the successful post holder and a 0.2 allowance is made in the workload allocation for the discharge of duties. The post holder will also engage in a range of scholarly activities and research in support of the School’s strategic plan.

The purpose of the role is to support the Deputy Dean/Dean of School through the leadership of a portfolio of specified responsibilities. The post holder will take delegated responsibility for a broad range of particular functions associated with practice placement enhancement, growth and development, leading significant elements of the School’s work.  An Associate Dean will take a lead role in overseeing the work of the School; in formulating and implementing School policy and decision-making and in working to ensure the School’s efficiency and the on-going pursuit of quality and excellence. The Associate Deans working with the Deputy Dean/Dean of School will form the School Executive Group (SEG) to facilitate effective and prompt decision making within the School.

This job is combined with the substantive academic appointment of the post holder and an allowance is made in the workload allocation for the discharge of duties.

Skills and experience required

You will have knowledge or health-related and social care/work programmes and understanding of the University’s key strategic goals. You will be able to demonstrate leadership skills in academic quality, with particular regard for the quality of practice, related activities and the ability to work successfully with a multi-disciplinary network. You will also be able to demonstrate proven ability to build successful working relationships across the University and with external organisations, regarding supporting and enabling student voice with key responsibility for identifying and responding to student issues.

Qualifications required

You will hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent level 7 qualification), in a relevant subject area and have current registration with a health regulator (HCPC, NMC etc). Having obtained or working towards a PhD (no more than 3 months prior to viva) in a relevant subject area is desirable.
