Job Summary

Education Support Services (ESS) provides world-class audiovisual and instructional support, event and media production, training, and consulting services to faculty, staff, and students in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS).  The team supports the school’s mission by delivering premium technology offerings that enhance and creatively advance the teaching & learning environment.  ESS is comprised of six service groups: Teaching & Learning Support, Design & Engineering, Event & Media Production, Language Center, Assistive Technology Services, and Piano Technical Services.

The Assistive Technology Center provides academic support for non-neurotypical students and students with disabilities at Harvard University.

Position Description

The Assistive Technology Coordinator will:

  • Create alternative format course materials (textbooks, articles, handouts) for students with disabilities
  • Scan materials for conversion to various electronic and print formats, proofread reformatted materials
  • Supervise student and part-time employees
  • Organize document production, and train students to use accessible tools, such as voice recognition and e-text
  • Evaluate software for accessibility and related duties.

Some occasional overtime work will be required.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least two years of college
  • A minimum of 1 year of customer service experience
  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Experience formatting materials for Braille, either electronic or embossed

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • College degree or equivalent strongly preferred
  • At least two years experience in providing client services
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, and serve a range of clients while maintaining a professional customer service demeanor, work independently, and work within strict deadlines
  • Experience troubleshooting complex problems on Windows and Macintosh computers
  • Experience in optical character recognition or assistive technology is highly desirable
  • The willingness to do all that is possible to help client students succeed in their studies

Working Conditions

Hybrid office environment:  This position will be based in Cambridge, MA and there is an expectation of three (3) workdays per week on campus.  Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process.

Additional Information

This position includes 35 hours per week of work over ten months per year with a two-month, unpaid seasonal leave of absence. The ten-month annual schedule will begin approximately one to two weeks prior to the start of the fall term.
