Description The School of Marine and Environmental Programs (SMEP) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor starting in August 2023. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the human dimensions of climate change, with additional focus areas that could include environmental policy and planning, renewable energy, planetary health, environmental justice, and/or theory and practice of social change.

Responsibilities The school seeks candidates to teach environmental studies courses such as Environment and Society, Environmental Policy, and upper-level environmental studies courses focusing on the human dimensions of climate change. The candidate will also teach sections of Introduction to Environmental Issues, a required course for all CAS students. This position typically teaches the equivalent of 12 credits per semester. The successful candidate will also participate in academic advising, recruiting, curriculum development, course and program assessment, and service to the school, college and university.
Qualifications A master’s degree in environmental studies or an appropriate field is required by the time of appointment; candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred. Candidates with demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching are also preferred. Candidates must be committed to interdisciplinary teaching and active learning pedagogies, and have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
