| Description | The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SMAPS) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor in chemistry, with a focus in biochemistry, starting in August 2023. The successful candidate will join a collegial, engaged team of faculty and professional staff in a school offering programs in Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Science, and Laboratory Science. | Responsibilities | The school seeks candidates to teach undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in general chemistry and biochemistry that serve science majors in CAS and the College of Health Professions. The typical teaching load is the equivalent of 12 credits per semester. The successful candidate will also engage in curriculum development and participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment, and service to the school, college and university. |
| Qualifications | A master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment; preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. or to those with a combination of professional experience and education that provide commensurate qualifications. Candidates must demonstrate an interest in and commitment to teaching general chemistry and biochemistry to undergraduates. Applicants with expertise suited to the teaching of research-based biochemistry labs and/or courses in other chemistry sub-fields will be given additional consideration. Individuals with experience using technology and digital media are also encouraged to apply, as are those committed to teaching with inclusive pedagogies that promote active engagement to foster student learning. Successful candidates will have experience in, and a demonstrated commitment to, promoting and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational and work environment consistent with the University’s core value. |
