The Department of Human Genetics has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Assistant Scientist to work on the UHealth Campus. The Assistant Scientist carries out a particular research agenda in support of the University’s research goals and objectives. Moreover, the Assistant Scientist, SOM contributes to the scientific community by publishing research findings and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field.

  • Perform functional and genomic studies of KLF6 in hematopoiesis and analysis of all associated data.

  • Conduct research in human disease models to evaluate candidate genes in the KLF6 pathway.

  • Publish original research articles in conjunction with the principal investigator.

  • Confer with principal investigators to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular experiment as required.

  • Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques.

  • Seek independent funding from foundations and associations for pilot studies with the appropriate permission from leadership.

  • Shares protocols and knowledge with lab members and trains other lab members in specific procedures.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree relevant field  

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience 

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. 

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. 

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
