Dr. Victor Luna has started a new lab in the Alzheimer’s Center at Temple University, Katz School of Medicine. His research is aimed at rejuvenating synaptic function in the hippocampus in order to reverse cognitive impairments due to advanced age and Alzheimer’s disease.

The lab is seeking an Assistant Scientist who will provide professional level research support and lab management. The individual will receive training directly with Dr. Luna in the requisite procedures and experimental protocols. The position is suitable for an individual seeking to enter or continue a career in laboratory research work.

Responsibilities include: maintenance of mouse colonies, running mouse behaviors, mouse surgeries (i.e. intracranial AAV injection), western immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, calcium imaging, ordering supplies, and lab management (e.g. ordering supplies, institutional compliance, assist in instrument repair).

The Assistant Scientist will be tasked with executing experimental protocols, analyze data, maintain records, and maintain upkeep of lab equipment. The individual will be included as an author in manuscripts in projects involving their experiments. Additionally, there will be opportunities for the individual to present their results at meetings and conferences. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 years of research-related experience. Experience as an undergraduate researcher can be applied toward the research experience requirement. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:
*Demonstrated ability to independently conduct various experimental techniques with training
*Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate research records
*Working knowledge of applicable computer software
*Familiarity and comfort with managing mouse colonies
*Ability to work independently and as part of the laboratory team
