As a driver of innovation, TU Wien fosters close collaboration with business and industry and contributes to the prosperity of society.At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of TU Wien a tenure track position in the field of integrated optical sensor systems is to be filled as of October 2024 (40 hours per week / full time).The post is provisionally fixed term for six years and will be converted into a permanent associate professorship subject to positive tenure evaluation according to a standardized process (tenure track with qualification agreement).The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Automation and Control. Duties include research and teaching in the field of integrated optical sensor systems.Tasks: Research:

  • Design and implementation of highly integrated optical sensor systems for industrial and scientific applications
  • Characterization and validation of optoelectronic sensors and sensor systems, including radiation testing and reliability analysis
  • Development of highly sensitive sensor based on SPADs (single photon avalanche diodes) with single photon sensitivity
  • Design and optimization of integrated optoelectronic detectors for applications such as satellite networks, quantum communication and quantum simulation, 3D-sensing, Lidar- and wind lidar systems, as well as applications in medical diagnostics

Teaching:

  • Compulsory and elective courses (lectures, tutorials, laboratories) in the field of optoelectronic sensor systems, optical metrology, as well as instrumentation and automation.
  • Supervision and Co-Supervision of student research projects (Bachelor, Master and PhD theses)

Administration:

  • Assumption of general tasks in the administration of the institute
  • Involvement in university committees
  • Establishment and management of an own research group
  • Acquisition of third-party funds through research projects

Your profile:

  • A domestic or equivalent foreign university degree with doctorate appropriate to the position
  • Excellent German and English language skills
  • Proven expertise in the field of design, integration and characterization of integrated optoelectronic sensors and sensor systems
  • Comprehensive expertise in the development of optical detectors with single photon sensitivity
  • Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
  • Junior scientist with a doctorate completed within the past 10 years
  • Relevant experience in academic teaching and in the supervision and co-supervision of academic final theses
  • Experience with the design and implementation of research projects and the willingness and the ability to manage a research group
  • Comprehensive experience with successfully securing external funding
  • Experience abroad in the context of research stays is desirable
  • Leadership and social competence, including gender and diversity competence
