As a driver of innovation, TU Wien fosters close collaboration with business and industry and contributes to the prosperity of society.At the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry, in the Research Group for Molecular Chemistry and Chemical Biology, TU Wien is offering the following tenure track position for 40 hours/week. A reduced number of hours/week (down to 30 hours) is possible, especially in the initial phase. Expected start: September 2024.The post is provisionally fixed term for six years and will be converted into a permanent associate professorship subject to positive tenure evaluation according to a standardized process (tenure track with qualification agreement).The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry. Duties include research and teaching in the fields of organic chemistry and electrochemistry. The focus of research should be on orthogonally controllable theranostic systems and the development of new diagnostic strategies.Tasks: Research:

  • Design of theranostic approaches
  • Development of new chemical strategies and concepts, in particular orthogonal biocompatible reactions, towards diagnostic and/or therapeutic application
  • Research and development in biosensor technology (including biomimetic sensor systems)
  • Design of smart theranostic devices
  • Administrative tasks in the research group, at the institute, and the Faculty of Technical Chemistry (including the management of research projects, infrastructure, strategic programs and networking activities)
  • Active collaboration with other research groups at TU Wien

Teaching:

  • The successful candidate will teach in classes and lab courses of the Bachelor and Master curricula Technical Chemistry. In addition, the candidate is planned to be involved in teaching in the Master curriculum Biomedical Engineering.
  • Involvement in basic and research-led teaching as well as direct supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD students is planned.
  • It is emphasized that currently the teaching in the Bachelor curriculum is in German language requiring appropriate language skills

Your profile: Required:

  • University Master and Doctoral degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Proven research achievements including international, peer-reviewed publications in relevant research fields
  • Scientific activity outside TU Wien (e.g. Postdoc), preferentially outside Austria
  • Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects (both in the field of basic research and applied research)
  • Proof of acquired project funding at a highly competitive level (e.g. ERC Grant, FWF START Prize) in accordance with the Excellence Initiative of TU Wien and the Faculty of Technical Chemistry
  • Willingness to lead a research group and take on management tasks within the organizational structure
  • German and English language skills at C1 level
