Expected start: September 2025.The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract.The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer (E322), Research Unit on “Numerical Fluid Mechanics” (E322-02). Duties include research and teaching in the field of “High Performance Computing in Fluid Mechanics”. The focus of research should be on the modelling and simulation of complex flow systems using high-performance computing.Tasks:Research:

  • Conduct high-level research in High-Performance Computing (HPC) applied to fluid mechanics, with a focus on fluid-structure interaction, particle-laden flows, or other complex flow phenomena
  • Develop and implement scalable numerical methods and algorithms for large-scale HPC-based fluid dynamics simulations
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners to apply HPC-based simulations in practical engineering and scientific applications
  • Secure external research funding and lead independent research projects
  • Supervise doctoral and master’s students in computational fluid mechanics and HPC related areas
  • Manage the HPC infrastructure of the research unit

Teaching:

  • The successful candidate will teach in classes and lab courses of the Masters of Mechanical Engineering and Computational Science and Engineering and the future Bachelor of Digital Engineering
  • It should be noted that the courses are partly held in German and partly in English, and that knowledge of both languages is required

Your profile:Essential Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Fluid Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • At least four years of postdoctoral experience
  • Scientific activity outside TU Wien (e.g. PhD and/or postdoc position abroad)
  • Proven experience in High-Performance Computing applications in fluid mechanics
  • Strong background in numerical methods and HPC
  • Experience in managing computational infrastructure such as CPU-based and GPU-based clusters
  • A track record of high-quality research publications in recognized journals
  • Relevant teaching experience at BSc and MSc level and the supervision or co-supervision of academic theses
  • Ability to prepare and present teaching content didactically; very good German language skills (certified CEFR level C1); very good written and spoken English skills
  • In case there is no adequate knowledge of German, willingness to quickly learn German is presupposed for teaching in bachelor programmes and participation in management of the institute and the faculty as well as in university bodies

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in applying for external research funding
  • Knowledge of modern software development practices for HPC applications
  • Interdisciplinary research experience in fields such as aerodynamics, multiphase flows, etc
  • Engagement in international research collaborations
