As a driver of innovation, TU Wien fosters close collaboration with business and industry and contributes to the prosperity of society.The Institute of Sensor and Actuator Systems (Research Unit Microsystems Technology) is offering the following tenure track position in the field of Sustainable Silicon Carbide Technology for 40 hours/week. Expected start: January 2025.The post is provisionally fixed term for six years and will be converted into a permanent associate professorship subject to positive tenure evaluation according to a standardized process (tenure track with qualification agreement).Duties include research and teaching in the field of Sustainable Silicon Carbide Technology.Tasks: Research:

  • Technology and characterization of porosified silicon carbide layers and their application in sustainable substrate concepts
  • Fabrication and characterization of silicon carbide devices for MEMS as well as for power electronic applications
  • Integration of carbon-based thin films in silicon MEMS as well as their characterization
  • Reliability investigations of carbon-based MEMS

Teaching:

  • Compulsory and elective courses (lectures, tutorials, laboratories) in the field of carbon-based thin films and corresponding systems, their integration in micromachined devices, as well as techniques for the characterization of and the measurement with silicon carbide MEMS devices
  • Supervision and Co-Supervision of student research projects (Bachelor, Master and PhD theses)

Administration:

  • Assumption of general tasks in the administration of the institute
  • Involvement in university committees
  • Establishment and management of an own research group
  • Acquisition of third-party funds through research projects

Your profile:

  • A domestic or equivalent foreign university degree with doctorate appropriate to the position
  • Excellent German and English language skills
  • Proven expertise in the field of fabrication and characterization of silicon carbide devices for MEMS and for power electronic applications
  • Comprehensive expertise in the characterization of and the measurement with carbon-based MEMS as well as the electrochemical porosification of silicon carbide layers
  • Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
  • Junior scientist with a doctorate completed within the past 10 years
  • Relevant experience in academic teaching and in the supervision and co-supervision of academic final theses
  • Experience with the design and implementation of research projects and the willingness and the ability to manage a research group
  • Comprehensive experience with successfully securing external funding
  • Experience abroad in the context of research stays is desirable
  • Leadership and social competence, including gender and diversity competence
