Job Summary:

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a full-time term Assistant Professor position to begin January 2023, contingent upon funding approval.

Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be teaching the following:

  • Spring 2023, 4 courses (2 preps), and

  • Academic Year 2023-24, 3 courses (max 2 preps) and 3-units of service* per semester OR 4 courses (2 preps) per semester depending on the candidate’s preference.

* One unit of service is equivalent to 37.5 hours of work per semester and candidate can engage in service activities in the department, college, and university.

Minimum Qualifications :  A strong record of teaching at the university level and an understanding of and commitment to support the mission of the University of San Francisco are essential. The successful candidate must be able to offer their reflections on equity, and strategies for success in engaging with BIPoC students. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. (or expect to complete their Ph.D. by January, 2023) in mathematics or a closely related field.

Applicants should submit: a cover letter summarizing interests and qualifications, curriculum vitae , a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, evidence of teaching ability (e.g., sample syllabi, teaching evaluations), a diversity statement  (which may include your thoughts and/or experiences concerning equitable education for underserved and marginalized communities, your commitment to or experience with broadening participation and accessibility in the field, and/or experience and success in engaging with BIPoC students), and three letters of recommendation (requested upon submission of application). In order to better serve our Black-identified and Latinx students–who make up 15% and 21% of our undergraduate student body respectively–the University of San Francisco is seeking to hire a cohort of new faculty whose scholarship and/or community-engaged research and creative work focuses on the experiences of Black and Latinx communities, or antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion more generally, and who have proven expertise and experience in mentoring Black, Latinx and first generation students.

USF is entering into the second year of a faculty diversity hiring initiative; in the first year, 70% of new full-time faculty hires were faculty of color. Junior BIPoC faculty are invited to participate in mentoring, community building and peer to peer opportunities coordinated by the Vice Provost for Equity, Inclusion and Faculty Excellence. Faculty also enjoy peer support through affinity groups such as the Asian and Asian American Staff/Faculty Council , Black Community Council , LGBTQ Caucus and La Colectiva of Latinx Staff and Faculty .

In addition all new faculty have access to a free membership with the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity and support from the Center for Teaching Excellence and the Center for Research, Artistic and Scholarly Excellence .
